IO have Mirena and love it, I had cramps the first day but I'd do it over again if needed.
Please i need some advise. I have a 7month baby and a few months ago I decided to get on some kind of birth control. The OB/GYN gave me Yaz and suggested some non hormonal IUD. I have not been pleased with the YAZ, because since i got on it, my period has been off. Has anyone tried this non hormonal IUD? Please need some from anyone who uses or has used it. Any side effects, etc?
Thanks

Is a diaphragm an option for you? they are hormone free and can be stopped at anypoint without your Dr's assistance. (IUD at some point has to be removed.) When used properly they are like 99.5% effective. (Average use is 94% effective. This accounts for many errors that can be made, but with proper instruction and use, are not a problem.) They are also HIGHLY cost effective. I paid one $20 Rx co-pay for a 5 year device. I was very happy with my choice!
My PERSONAL fear of an IUD is IF it fails, it can cause you to miscarry an otherwise healthy child. IUD do not prevent conception- only implantation! Meaning- many women with IUD get pg SEVERAL times during the IUD's life span, BUT the IUD ABORTS the child before they realize they are infact pg! For this reason, I will never persnally use an IUD.
However- people have to choose te contraseptive that best suits their needs. As with many other family planning choices, it is a PERSNAL choice that you and your partner need to be agreement about. Hope that I helped and not just provided more confusion! ~J.
i've used the iud, it was great. only a little cramping when they first insert it but that can be fixed with a little ibprofen. i didnt experience any side effects.
Before starting Yaz, did you get your period regularly?
I started using Yaz when I got my period for the 1st time after having my baby and I didnt have any problems, I get my period regularly now, with no side effects.
Did you call your doctor asking why you lost your period?
I was going to use the copper IUD (non-hormonal) but decided against it because the way it works is by causing inflammation in the uterus. That can also lead to stronger cramping. I'm a wienie so I figured that would not work for me. Plus, they can lead to an imbalance of the copper/zinc ratio unless you take extra zinc. Most people take vitamins with values regulated by the FDA which are set way too low.
I ended up going with the diaphragm... takes a little planning, but there is no hormones and no inflammation.
