My daughter is 4 and will be 5 in April. I am already researching elementary schools in the South Austin area. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations as to what are the best elementary schools in South or Southwest Austin?

What can I do next?

GOOD LUCK. My son is in first grade this year at Menchacha in South Austin. Last year he went ot private school at Legacy Oaks on Mancahca and I loved it, but I decided to send him to public school this year so that I could afford to send my middle son to private school. This is just me personally, but I would not recommend AISD to anyone. We are actually moving during Christmas break so that we can enroll our son in Hays county schools. AISD has a reputation for being one of the lowest rated school districts in all of Central Texas. I refuse to allow my son to become another one of their statistics. Good Luck!! I hope you have a better experience than I have.

You can go to the TEA (Texas Education Agency) website and find out the scoring of public schools. I live in Austin and my son goes to Casis Elementary School, which is an exemplary rated school. The best ratings are exemplary and recognized. That should help some.

I'm not sure if O. Henry is really "south" but I've heard great things about it. It's off of Lake Austin Blvd, over by Deep Eddie. Hope that helps.

Hi I.! My son just started Kindergarten at Kocurek off of Slaughter. I love the school and his teacher! Mrs. Boggs Rocks! She's helped my "little wetter" to stay dry all day and keeps him completely in love with school. There is a new principal this year. He's really impressed me. The school has great policies to keep the children interested, safe, and involved. His classmates are cute, sweet little kiddos. I'm really happy with my experience. I was pretty worried at first.
