My son who just turned 4 is completely potty trained during the day but at night I have to put on a pull up otherwise he wets everything. I know kids do stuff at there own rate but I was wondering if anybody knew how long it takes for them to be completely potty trained at night? My two girls were different they were potty trained from the beginning and never had accidents when I potty trained them. Not sure what to do any suggestions would help..

Thanks

C.

We had the same problem with my daughter until she was six. During the day she was potty trained at 3 but at night she still wore pull ups, finally I just bought several waterproof pads and put her in panties. It took about a week but she soon began to recognize the feeling at night. She is 8 and still has an occasional accident partly because she is a very sound sleeper. It will take time and patience, good luck.

Hi C.. We have the same issue with our son and he'll be 5 soon. Over the past 6 months, we have gone from wetting about every night to a few times a month. We do what we can by limiting his drinks at night and no drinks after 7:00 except for a tiny drink before bed. I know it can be many factors........ bladder not fully developed yet, etc. Our doctor assures us that this is very common in boys and usually until age 6. Like I said, with each month, it seems to get better. Hang in there.

My son did the same thing. It honestly took him until he was 5 1/2 to not wet at night. I even had to go from pullups to the goodnights for older kids. I didn't make a big deal about it, I didn't want him to feel like something was wrong. When he turn 51/2 I noticed that he stayed dry for a week, so we did use them anymore. I always make sure he goes to the bathroom before bed and sometimes I wake him up in the middle of the night(when I get up) to go if I know he's had a lot to drink or has been at the pool. He's 7 now. Hope it helps!

Hi C.,

My 2 1/2 girl almost 3 is completely potty traind, and I would say that 3 is about the most common time for the kids to be fully potty trained, but I have read before about a hormone that may take longer to start working on some children and delay the night timie control.

I am not sure where I read that, I will try to find it and if I do I will send it to you, in the menatime, at least you know that itmight be a hormone and not your child!

Good luck!

My son who is four has had a hard time at night as well. For about the last 6months he has not had an accident but before that it was on and off accidents since he was day potty trained. I am not sure what to tell you but sometimes it is easier to hear what other people's experiences are.

My son is 8 and he just stopped having occasional accidents. He'd wet 3-4 times per week. My daughter never needed pull-ups, but my son did. The doctors said that it was normal and that he'd grow out of it. When your son gets older, you can buy Goodnights. They are for older kids and have a size that accomodates up to 120 pounds! I know a lot of my friends with boys have had to use pull-ups. Hang in there!

Hey C. another thing to keep in mind is how sound of a sleeper your child is. I have 3 kids and 2 were instantly potty trained day and night no issues by their 3rd birthday, but the other is 5 1/2 and still wet every night no matter what we tried. She also has sleep issues with sound sleep, vivid dreaming, some light sleepwalking and my ped says this wetting is very common in heavy sleepers until up to 4th grade even! He says most kids outgrow it by 1st or 2nd grade and this can run in families. He says it's a "brain" thing for some kids; not a "bladder" issue. We just try to help her feel normal and be discreet with it all - buy whatever goodnights or size 6 diapers to keep her sheets dry. Good luck and keep your humor! :)
