Question About Leapfrog or Other Learning Toys

Does anyone own any leapfrog toys for their kids, and if so, have they been at all useful? We want to get more learning toys for our daughter, but are sick of buying things that she will not use and that just end up taking space in the garage. Any advice or recommendations for good learning toys would be really appreciated!

My daughter absolutely loves her leapfrog toys and has learned so much from them. She is not quite 3 and already knows her letters and their sounds, and it is mostly due to the leapfrog products. She had the LeapFrog Learning Table when she was little, and has had the Alphabet Pal, the Little Touch LeapPad, Fridge Phonics, and several of the videos (Letter Factory, Math Circus, etc).

My daughters are 4 & 9. They love their leapster. There are age appropriate games/levels for both of them. I got one for the oldest for Christmas 2 yrs ago. My little one love it so much that we got hers for her birthday in April.

We have had many of these products through the years!!

We love the Leapfrog toys. I always send them as gifts to our friends. Our 1st daughter (4) and now our second (6 mos). Love the leap frog activity table. It has legs you can easily take on and off. We also had the Baby tad and our first daugter learned shapes and colors from it. As in another message I could go on and on about the products, If you look at www.babiesrus.com you can actually see which toys sold best and read reviews I have found that the reviews are very helpful. Have fun!!!

I love leap frog toys. The first thing I would recommend is even if your child doesn't act interested in the toy, put it up and keep it a while. My son who is seven would often not be that interested when he was actually in the recommended age range for the toy but would later become interested. I really like leapfrog. My son this past Christmas got a leap frog talking globe he absolutely loves and we have been buying their product since he was an infant.

The leapfrog videos are great! That's actually a big part of how my son learned his letters and numbers. He's only 3 and already knows all his letters, letter sounds, and is starting to separate the sounds in words (like the "a" in alligator). He also really enjoys the magnetic word builder. It helps reinforce letter sounds and blending the sounds to make 3-letter words. It's also a great space saver because everything is on the refrigerator door. Good luck!

Our daughter likes her "My First Leap Pad" at age 3 1/2. She doesnt play with it constantly because I keep it put away. I pull it out about 2 times a week for her to use during her rest time. It can hold her attention for half an hour. I've found the key with a lot of toys is simply rotating them out periodically. I have a shelf in the garage and a few big storage bins that we use to stash toys on a rotating basis (every 3 or 4 weeks for some toys, more often for others). We've had good experiences with some of their other preschool products too (Fridge Farm, fridge alphabet, Baby Tad, and Letter Factory game)

my 2 year old loves his brother's leap pad (doesn't "get it" but loves to open and close it and knows to click the green button with the pen and likes to look at anything on the pages)... he also has a little touch leap pad and he just adores it... I love that there are 3 levels so he get to know sounds, music and words... they're quite resourceful and I can see that it'll last with him for another couple years. I also have purchaesd a my first leap pad but we haven't opened it yet...

Leapfrog is awsome! Bought "My first leap pad' when the oldest turned two. He played with it a lot! We took it everywhere. On the plane etc. When he turned 4 we bought the next step, and again he plays with it a lot. My first leap pad passed on to my second one, and he plays with it every single day for a long time, a couple of times a day. (he's now 2,5) We had to buy a new pen though, he chewed on it. But that's only 7 dollars. I hope it will survive so my last boy (just turned 1) can play with it also.
It's a good investment.

We have 2 boys (7 & 10). We have homeschooled our children using Leapfrog and other learning toys since they were 2yrs. Our 10 yr old is now on the 7th grade level (by age he would go into the 4th grade). Our 7 yr old is on the 5th grade level (by age he would go into the 2nd grade). You can donate your eductional toys to a shelter (they would love them). Try to buy things that are more advanced and let her go at her pace. You'll be amazed how fast she picks up things.

Good luck - write more if needed.

My girls have really enjoyed Lilly and Baby Tad the most. The My First Leap Pad and the larger Leap Pad haven't held out too well. If your child accidentally drops them on the floor a couple of times, they're not consistent anymore. They also have to lay extremely flat on a flat surface in order to function properly. My daughter continually wants to play with hers in her lap and gets extremely frustrated when it won't work. I have heard that there is a competitor's version of the My First Leap Pad and the larger one that work much better. But, Lilly and Baby Tad have always been a big hit. We've had them longer and they are still going strong.

My kids have all liked the Leap Pads. What is nice is that I can do Princess Stories for the 5 y/o and Advanced things for the 9 y/o. We also own a smaller "My First Leap Pad" that the 2 and 4 y/o enjoy. Part of the "trick" is using it with them.
The toiys all seem to last really well.

We love Leapfrog!!! My 6 year had a Leapfrog TAD as a baby and learned the shapes and some little songs, then a Learning Catapillar as a toddler, and learned the colors and alphabet, then a "First Leapad" when she was 3, and used it more than any other toy--it now belongs to her cousin. My daughter now has a Leapster and has used it for 2 years. She loves it. She learned the phonetic sounds of the alphabet from it and and is ready to read. I know she will continue learning from the Leapster. It is a wonderful toy that teaches like nothing else! I always give them as baby or 1st B-Day gifts!

Lakeshore has some REALLY neat things at their stores. You would be amazed at how affordable some of it is, as well. I would just go and take a look and speak with the sales lady on some week day or evening.

We have LOTS of Leapfrog stuff. As someone else said, use it with them, & they'll love it. They are not toys that my kids just go & pick up on their own-but they do like them.

I love Leapfrog products! My son got a Leap Pad when he was two and he still uses it at age six! The great thing about it is that it grows with your child through age-appropriate software/books that are sold seperately and very inexpensively.

The Leap Frog Imagination Desk is another one that I recommend.

Also, the Leap Frog Jr. Explorer Globe.

Also, the...Okay, I could go on FOREVER...

They have some really cool products!

My daughter is 3 1/2 and we bought her a My First Leapfrog. And she liked it for about 10 minutes. Every once in awhile she'll play with it but not often. She has learned more from just your basic games of Memory, Activity books, puzzles, etc. A great place for educational toys is Mardel's on Cooper and I20. I bought her a poster with the alphabet, a weather station poster, counting blocks. That seems to peek her interest more. Also, you can get really good preschool software for your pc. My husband likes to play the games on it with her. She learns and its a great bonding time for them.
