I am pregnant and have no health insurance. I want to apply for hoosier healthwise but I don't know what things they will need for me to get accepted. I have proof of pregnancy. I am not working but my boyfriend is. He doesn't make much money so I know they will accept us according to that. I am worried about them asking about proof of rent or morgage and stuff like that. We have a nice house in the country but are not making payments on it. What do I do? Does anybody know exactally what they ask you and what you need to get accepted. I also have two other children that I need health insurance for. What do I need to get them accepted to? I am very worried and if anybody has been through this and knows what the case worker needs exactally I would aprecciate it sooooooo much if you could let me know. Thanks so much!!!

What can I do next?

Hoosier healthwise is a lot less paperwork than Medicaid. I was on it for my first pregnancy, and if I remember right, I needed pay stubs (3 0r 4 months worth) for everyone living in my home. I also needed proof of pregnancy, which has to come from a doctor, the usuals (drivers license, birth cert, and ss card), and bank statement. There was a couple of other things too, but if you call, they can tell you over the phone. The first thing I did was go to the office and fill out paperwork. The office in Fort Wayne is at the corner of Rudisill and S. Clinton St. You fill it out there and hand it in, and then you leave and are sent something through the mail that has an appointment time and says exactly what paperwork you will need to bring. It's at that appt. that you will show all of your papers and they will determine eligibility from there. I would definitely call first though, because that was 5 years ago, and by now, you may be able to access the initial paperwork via the internet to save you a trip down there. WIC and medicaid, like someone else was mentioning are completely different. When you apply for hoosier healthwise, you're only applying for hoosier healthwise. It's different from medicaid applicants. Actually, hoosier healthwise is a lot easier to apply for and be accepted into than anything else because it's purpose is to insure children. Once you have the baby and have your 6 week checkup, you will be dropped and your baby's birth will need to be reported so that the baby can be covered. Don't worry though. The whole process for H.H. is very easy and only has to be renewed once every year.

I know exactly how you feel. My circumstances were a little different as I was losing my insurance, but still...When you apply for Hoosier Healthwise I do believe they ask for proof of pregnancy, pay stubs, I think proof of a stable home...I can't remember off the top of my head what else...but I do know that if you call in they can give you a listing of all you would need...I think you need birth certificates and social security cards for all of you.....and then after giving birth you need to getthem this info for baby asap....I hope this helps....also, just to put you a little at ease, in my situation they went back and covered the delivery and end of preg even though I didn't have it then, so they can go back and cover expences related to the pregnancy....also if you aren't already involved in WIC I would def. get involved....They help out from the beg of preg to the child is five years old....that could offset some expenses....anyways if you have any questions about any of it feel free to send me a message....

I had a similar situation. The best and thing to do is to call the Neighborhood Health Clinic. It will direct you to the WIC office. You can apply for both through that office. It's way easier than going downtown. That can take forever. I applied for both at the same time and I never had to set foot in the office on Rudisill. We have WIC and it's wonderful. It saves us SOOO much money. I can't remember the name of the lady that does Hoosier Healthwise out of the WIC clinic, but she's really nice. I know you have to have proof of pregnancy, proof of income, picture ID, and social security card (for you and your kids). If your income is low, like mine, you should qualify for full medicaid for you and the kids. It not only will cover your pregnancy but also if anything else goes wrong. It will only cover one ultrasound though. Good luck and Congratulations!!!!

I am a social worker and I help alot of families apply for Food Stamps and Medicaid. You will be asked to bring alot of information because the Medicaid office keeps getting stricter. What you should bring when applying for any public assistance is:
*Social Security numbers for everyoone in the household
*picture ID for all those over the age of 18
*Birth Certificates for everyone in the home
*if you have a bank account- they would like your latest bank statement
*if you own a car (or are making payments) they would like to see your car registration
*any other income to the household (babysitting, etc.)
*check stubs for the last 30 days
*you last utility bills (electric, gas, water)
*your mortgage statement or rental agreement (I know you said you dont have payments, but that wont hurt you- they just want to give you credit for what your monthly payments are and then they look at how much money comes in the home)

I think that is about it that they will ask. What you do is go to the DFC office (The Department of Family and Children) and fill out an application. If you are in Fort Wayne the address is: 201 E. Rudisill Blvd. #100 and the phone number is: ###-###-####. After you fill out the application, you will recieve a letter by mail with an appointment date and time. You will then bring all of the documents to that appointment. If you forget something that you did not bring, they give you 10 days to get it to them.

It sounds like you will have no problem to get accepted if your boyfriend is the only one working and providing for the home. Since you are pregnant, you will also recieve pregnancy Medicaid that will cover any testing and doctor visits and then the delivery. I would also encourage you to apply for Food Stamps and TANF (cash assistance) if you see that you struggle in that area. The assistance is there for those that need it and when you dont need it - just cancel it!!!!

Hope this was helpful...and congratulations on the new addition to the family!!!
