I would be shocked if the holes closed up even after a week, after all this time. By all means, take them out!
Hi Moms! My daughter, who is now six years old, has had her ears pierced since she was a baby of five months old. The earrings have never been a problem until recently. She has begun fiddling with her earrings, especially at night. She has woken us up a number of times because she has pulled out her earring. I examine her ears every time and they are not infected. She says the ears don't hurt, neither do the earrings. She is simply fiddling with them. My question is, has she had them pierced long enough that we can take out her earrings to sleep? Or are they still new enough that her ears might close overnight? Thanks and merry Christmas!

She's had her ears pierced for over 5 years? She's all set if she wants to take them out to sleep. The lobe only takes 10-12 weeks to fully heal. :)
Hi S., you only need to keep earrings in for a year to keep them from closing up. My daughter got her ears pierced when she was a baby and we've taken them out from time to time for months at a time and her ears haven't closed up.
I had my ears pierced when I was 6, took them out when i was 8 and didn't put them back in again until i was 18 and I still had holes!! Certainly after 5 years her holes wouldn't close up just from keeping them off overnight. Good luck!
Yup, she's all healed after 5 years. Go ahead and take them out!
Yes she can go over night with out earrings. I used to work for an ear piercing place and we told our customers that after 1 year they can go over night without earrings.
My 2 daughters have also had their ears pierced since they were young. They don't fiddle much with the earrings though. In fact, they still wear they kind similar to their first ones that are very hard to open. I, myself, often can't get them off. But they sometimes pop off while undressing or whatever. Her holes may close up a bit if the earrings are taken out for a day or two or longer. But it's easy to put the earrings back in. Just dab the holes and studs with olive oil that has a pinch of salt thrown on it. I usually use a cotton ball though Q-tips work also. This helps with minor irritations around the holes too.
Hope that helps you.
They definitely won't close. :)
