Hi Mommies ~ got a quick question, when my son (12 years old) was born, he had a mark on his head from where the nurse's took off the adhedise monitor. He was born with a full head of hair ~ after that he actually has the Harry Potter lighting bolt in that spot. All these years when we cut his hair you can telll that he's missing hair in that spot. Recently we noticed that he was contantly picking on it and when I went to see what it was that was bothering him I noticed that it was a layered cauiflower type of growth. Is this something I should worry about ? What could it be? Thanking you all in advance!

Maybe he has developed some type of dermatitis in that area - I would consult a dr. if I was you. They can most likely give you a topical cream to clear it up.

Is it possible your son picked it a lot so that it's the scabbing forming? Did anyone ever say anything when you were getting his hair cut? I'll bet a lot of haircutters have seen things like that. Since he's not complaining don't worry too much. But perhaps call the doctor if you do get really worried.

It may just be a scab from his scratching. Take him to the dr. to find out for sure.

I would definately take him to the doctor...a dermatologist if you have one. If not, I would take him to your pediatritian. It may be nothing but, I would get it checked out for sure.

Any unusual growth should be looked at by a doctor. I would take him in as soon as you can get an appointment.

Sounds like it might be a wart...

I wouldn't worry (Hard, I know) bur def. take him to the dermatologist. If they determine that it is nothing, at least they could remove it and it wouldn't irritate your son anymore. I have had several moles removed and it is painless (other than the initial shot of anestesia.)

If it were my son, I would have it checked.

Good Luck.

My 8 year old was born with a spot on his head a little smaller than a dime that looked like a scar with no hair and a small scab right in the middle. The nurses initially said it was from the monitor, but it turned out to be a spot where the skin didn't form properly, called cutis aplasia. We ended up taking him to a plastic surgeon last year to have it excised because it started to get irritated and painful at times.

I don't know if your son has something similar, but since he is picking at it, it sounds like it is bothering him. I would at least have a dermatologist take a look so you won't have to wonder.

Good luck!
