I had it in my first pregnancy very bad, my dr. prescribed something that I took every day, it also made me tired, and I also used Sarna an anti-itch lotion, mine was gone before I had my daughter.
Hi Ladies,
I'm just wondering if anyone who had PUPPS during pregnancy had to deal with this after delivery? I read that it usually goes away after baby, but it also said that it could hang around for up to a few months afterward!!! I have a medication that I take about once every 5 days that keeps this under control, but it makes me SO tired! I guess I don't get a choice in this matter, but I would like to know if I'm in for a long miserable ride. Any answers, mama's? Thanks a lot!

Yes, I had PUPPPs, really badly. You're lucky you got meds for it! My doctor repeatedly told me there was nothing he could do for me and I suffered and didn't sleep for weeks before I ended up in emergency for something else (not life threatening) and I begged the doctor there for some cortisone cream! It helped, but not completely. I used Grandpa's Pine Tar soap, though, which worked wonders. However, you want to know about the after birth experience... I did continue to itch for about a week afterward, but nothing like I did when I was pregnant! It didn't go immediately, like some reports, but it eased up and by the third day was just like bug bite itchy. However, I have this weird thing that now when I get my period my feet get really itchy. I have had three periods since I gave birth and during each one my feet have itched, but they are not as itchy as the last one. I think it must be hormonal and am hoping it disappears altogether soon. That said, though, it's nowhere near as unbearable as PUPPPs! Just annoying.
I had it with my son, I was miserable!! My took about a week or so after birth to completely disapear though the itching had basically completely stopped right after birth. I would have to agree with a pp that you're lucky that your doc gave you something! Mine kept on saying there was nothing I could take and the only think was oatmeal baths and hydrocortizone cream!
Mine actually cleared up about a week before delivery. I didn't have medication but found oatmeal baths helped. Good luck!
I had it and it lasted about a month or so. I was never on medication and used a combination of Pine Tar soap (found at your health food market) and aveeno anti-itch lotion. I also drank dandelion leaf tea... I think it was really the soap that did it. It doesn't smell good but it gave great relief and so I showered at least twice a day just to use it...and a lot of it.
Good luck!
I had PUUPS when I was pregnant with our son. It was horrible. No medicines helped. I was only given antihistamines by my OB. They didn't help. Only thing that helped were cool baths. Sorry to say, but my lasted for 6 months after I delivered. It didn't itch nearly as bad, but it was still uncomfortable. I hope yours goes away w/ delivery...some peoples do :)
For my sister it lasted several months. But with my best friend it cleared up almost immediately. I think it really depends on you. I did want to tell you about the lotion that my sister said was a lifesaver though- its called Sarna Sensitive Skin lotion, she got it at the drugstore. She said it really helped short term with the itching.
I had this with my last babe... she is now 6 weeks old. It went away immediately after birth. It actually started getting better about three weeks prior to birth.. although she was three weeks late.
I only had it during my first pregnancy and it cleared up as soon as my son was delivered.
sorry you are suffering!! I understand how terrible it is. it should go away a week or so after you deliver. hang in there!!
When I had it, the doctor just prescribed Unisom to stop the itching and help me sleep better. I don't remember exactly how long it lasted, but I know it was definitely gone before I came home from the hospital.
After the 7th month of pregnancy, I developed PUPPPs. The rash broke out from the stretch marks on my belly and left awful scars. The itch felt like an intense burning. My skin became lizard-y now and did start healing after some of the treatments, but then became itchy from the dryness. It SUCKED big time and lasted until 6 weeks after my son’s birth. I tried everything to alleviate the constant feeling of itchiness and the sleep deprivation it caused. It was a nightmare. horrible horrible nightmare.
Doctors normally recommend steroid injections and I felt strongly that I did not want to inject my body with steroid. I tried Benedryl antihistamine spray, Grandpa’s Pine Tar Soap, Aveeno oatmeal soap and baths, Eucerin Anti-itch cream, calendula cream for the healing dry scaly parts, tea-tree based anti-itch cream, Ahava lotion. I also had weekly acupuncture appointments.
In the end, Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap, the topical antihistamine spray and acupuncture treatments helped the most.
