Hey Everyone ~ I am hoping that you can help me out, I have seen lots of posts about this, but of course can't find them now....I have a 3 month old baby and I am pumping 3 times a day while I am at work. (It had been twice and I would go home on my lunch break and feed her, but now her schedule has changed and I can't do that.) So last week I had a Merina IUD put in, and it seems like my milk production has decreased. I am scared that my milk production is going to stop. Does anyone know if the Merina actually causes this or is it just a coincidence, AND, what can I do to increase my production? I have heard about a tea you can drink, but don't know what it is or where to get it.....want to breastfeed as long as possible for my precious one!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all so much - I went and got the tea, and it works - I think I am going to get some pills as well just because it is not always convenient to make hot tea. But it tastes good and I lilke it. The lady at the health food store said that the pills and the tea are the same thing, so I thinkif I have both options, then I will be able to keep up with getting the proper dose every day!!

They put me on the mini-pill until 6 months because of the hormones in the normal pill. I wonder if something is in the Mirena that is similar? Whatever the reason, it is happening. Go to GNC or anyplace with a healthfood section and buy some Fenugreek. Take 3 pills, 3 times a day. You can increase up to 5, 3 times a day (I knew a lady that did 7), and you should notice a difference in a day or two. I would stay on it for about a week, and then try to slowly lower the dosage and see if production stays up. And make sure that your water intake is up.

I'm not sure about Mirena's effects - other than it's supposed to be safe & not affect your breastfeeding. Hopefully it's just a coincidence and a short-term thing.
As for the tea, try Mothers' Milk Tea (by Traditional Medicinals). I found it at the grocery store (Wegmans) & ChristmasTreeShoppe. Drink lots of water too & don't skip any meals...also I've heard that oatmeal helps production too!
Keep pumping & hopefully you're supply will increase!

Kudos on breast-feeding! But I have a couple questions: If the hormones in the Mirena is preventing milk production and you take something else to increase milk production, which message should your body listen to? And what happens to this excess progestin you're putting into your body? Is it coming out in the milk for your baby to consume? Just asking.

I don't know about Mirena, but I drank the mother's milk tea and took the pills. Good luck and way to go for pumping. i did it for 10.5 months and I know it's not easy:)
