My boys are allergic to the milk proteins. Try Soy, Rice or Almond milk and see if those make a difference. If that does not work you might also get him checked out for reflux.
Hey mamas, quick question...have any of you had a baby puke up even lactose free milk? Is that a true milk allergy? My little guy is one today actually and he was pukey with whole milk mixed with formula, so I tried lactose free with formula and still pukey. The I thought maybe the mix of formual and milk didn't set well all together so I gave him a bottle of lactose free milk last night and this morning and he is very pukey. Totally happy and playful, not at all acting sick, but going around leaving very acidic little puke deposits. His bm was also pretty acidic this morning. I was also thinking that maybe it was just that an 8oz bottle followed by oatmeal was just too much on the tummy. Any thoughts? I have never had a baby do this before, my middle child has always had to do lactose free but was never pukey with it. Thanks!

Maybe you'er little one has a casein allergy and not lactose(milk "sugar") intolerant....Casein, the milk protein, is still in lactose free milk...look into soy milk or enriched rice milk or almond milk...my son did well with rice dreams....and I think there is a casein free formula but it's kind of expensive I believe....talk to your pedi....Good luck -- hope he feels better
There is a difference between lactose intolerance and milk allergy. Could be your little one is actually allergic to the protein in milk. Lactose is not a protein.
How long have you been giving him cow's milk? Could be that his system just needs to adjust to it.
Or you could go back to using just formula and see what happens.
Figuring this out is a matter of trying different combinations, allowing several days with one to see how it works.
BTW how do you know it's acidic? I don't know what the significance of being acidic or not would have on a diagnosis.
I would take a look at the type of formula you are giving your son first. Is this a formula that he has been drinking for a while? The reason I ask is because most formula has milk protein in it, which is what a milk allergic person cannot have. My son has a milk allergy, and could not handle regular formulas. He had to drink soy formula. If your baby is drinking a regular formula, then it is probably not an allergy, but if the formula is a partially broken down protein type, soy, or rice formula, then it could be.
I would give it some time because sometimes milk is a little more harsh on little tummies at first, but they just need a little time to adjust to the change. If you are still having issues, then you can always get referral to an allergist and get him tested. My son took a skin scratch test as well as blood tests, which both came back positive. When you get the blood tests done, the doctor can monitor the levels of the allergy in the blood and can see how the levels change in a year or two. The good thing is that a milk allergy is one where outgrowing it is very common!
Yes, he's likely intolerant to milk protein, which means that lactose-free milk won't help because it still has all the protein in it. It's pretty common. You'll have to stick with a non-dairy milk, such as soy, rice, or almond for him at least for a while.
It could very well be an allergy to milk, which has nothing to do with lactose. Milk allergies are caused by the proteins whey and casein in milk.
Does he eat yogurt or cheese? How does he handle those? What about things like goldfish crackers? If he has no trouble with any of those, it's a good sign that either his allergy isn't too bad, or he doesn't actually have one at all. However, I would NOT give him any more whole milk or lactaid without consulting with his doctor first.
My son cannot tolerate any milk whatsoever; even one goldfish cracker would give him hives and probably cause him to vomit.
Talk to his doc to find out for sure. And happy birthday to your son!
