Psychiatrist Recommendation?

I had some pretty serious postpartum depression after my son was born in 2006, but I didn't do anything to treat it. I think I was in denial at the time. Now, with some new stressors in my life in addition to the everyday challenges of raising a toddler, it seems to have morphed into (returned as?) regular depression, which runs in my family. I'd like to start seeing someone for talk therapy and I'd like it to be someone who is able to prescribe anti-depressants, as I'm feeling like that will be necessary at some point, but I don't know where to start. The list of providers on my insurance company's website doesn't offer much more than name and address, and I hate feeling like I'm just picking a name out of a hat. Also, the last thing I want to do is start with someone only to realize three months later that I don't like them and have to start all over again with someone else. So my request is two-fold:

1. Does anyone have a specific doctor they would recommend? I live in Aurora and work in downtown Denver.
2. Does anyone have any suggestions for methods of finding someone other than the "pull a name from a hat" route?

Thanks so much.

I, would try to call some of the counselers and ask, if they would do a counseltation over the phone. You will get a good fell or not, if they are the one you are comfortable with. I got depressed after 3 months of having my daughter, it was because her father was not supportive or emotionally there for me. There is a reason we feel alientated, but a good counselor or even a pastor at church could help you work through these emotions. Most Pastors at Church will give their service freely. You don't have to pay. If you know of a Church, you attent, or a friend knows of it's worth looking into. Calvary Chapel on Hampden and Buckley might be a good place to start.

Now as far as Anti-depressants, I myself have had a horrible experience as well as close friends. The side effects, the harm they cause to your major functioning organs, not to mention hormones and seritonin levels. You would be better off seeking a free Nutricianist@ Vitamin Cottage. There is on on Leetsdale and Holly. It's between Holly and Colorado BLVD. Can't miss it on the North side of st. Fish oil, Primrose oil, specifically balances out hormones and it's natural made from roses. What is your blood type?
If you are Type A like me, flax or codliver oil are recommended. I also know of a Female Licensed and certified Dr. Jennifer ____@____.com name is A. Cordova you can email me @ ____@____.com or call ###-###-####

God bless and I know you will be ok!

They will ask you some questions about yourself over the phone and set up an orientation session. After you go to orientation, they will give you an appointment with the therapist and/or doctor.

Hi S. -

I just wanted to let you know that I'm in a very similar situation. My son is 11 months old, I was diagnosed back in July or August. I went through a 13 week program for moms and babies dealing with postpartum depression at the Kempe Center, right by the old Children's Hospital. The Kempe Center was amazing, definitely a good starting point. But I, too, am looking for an individual therapist who can also keep prescribing meds for me (I'm on 2) who I can do some talk therapy with as well. Maybe we could keep in touch and let each other know if we find anyone that we really like or don't like. I think I'm going to contact the Kempe Center as well to see if they have any suggestions that will work with my insurance.

Bottom line, just remember that you are not alone and that if I can help in any way, I sure will. Feel free to message me here, or you can email me: ____@____.com. Maybe we can chat sometime.

Hang in there, keep your chin up and BE GOOD TO YOURSELF! It's hard for us mamas to remember that sometimes...
