Hello moms out there. My 3 year old son currently goes to a montessori preschool and we love it. My question is we are beginning to look into furthur education and I am looking for any recommendations you have. We want to send him to some type of private school. I am just starting to research the different types so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We live in Long Beach and would like to find something in the area.
Thanks!
J.

Depending on where you are in LB, Cypress is somewhat close. I have my daughter at Grace Christian in Cypress and I absolutely LOVE it there! Their program starts in Preppy K and goes through 8th grade.

I'm sorry I don't know if there is one near Long Beach, but check out Waldorf schools. Waldorf is about letting imagination guide learning (it is developmental; educate whole person-body, mind, spirit; arts, music; learning is not competitive; teaches reading late; media hampers imagination; teacher stays with same class for 8-12 years, the relationship fosters deeper learning; specialty art, music, gym teachers come in; each school is different).

See Waldorf FAQs in "about Waldorf education" at http://www.whywaldorfworks.org/02_W_Education/faq_about.asp

Also, in this same site, look at the survey of graduates for what they value

My son came from a Montessori also and we were sad that he aged out after K. However, we really LOVE his new school Westerly School of Long Beach which offers differentiated learning which is really important. Other things we love about Westerly. Small classes (10-1), service learning, does not teach to test, kids are very respectful (call parents by Mr./Mrs. rather than first names), all kids take Spanish, art, play instruments, and PE. Also, no cliques among students or parents :)The school offers group tours or individual appointments. Don't be scared away about the price because there is financial aid available.
