I know some moms don't like the idea of getting shots for their little ones, however, I think because the doctors know what is best for our babies when it comes to shots we should let them give them their shots. My daughter has had all of the ones that she's supposed to so far and she is fine. Sometimes she would have a small fever or be extra tired and not feel great after, but it usually only last a day or so.

Best of luck deciding! Better to be safe than sorry, esp. when your child gets chicken pox.

It is more scarier if they contracted one of the diseases. Not only does it effect your child, but others can be affected to. Plus if you need care or schooling some may reject your child if they do not have all the shots.

I did a comprehensive report for a course I was taking a few semesters ago regarding rececnt studys conducted regarding the suspected link between certain health risks and innoculations and I was unable to find any study that determined any risks could be directly linked to childhood immunizations. Even prior to conducting my report on the new research, I felt that the risks of opting out of immunizing your children far outweigh any possible supposed risk posed by having them immunized. Deadly and dibilitating childhood diseases have been all but eradicated in the United States because of the far reaching push for immunizations for children. Look at the facts... the right choice is clear. Thank you, and best wishes.

Hi Z.,

As a mother of a 15 year old son on the austism spectrum disorder, I would wait till my children are 2 years old before I would give them shots. Even though the toxic ingredient that used to be used for a preservative is no longer being used, I think there are still other issues that may still be involved with theses vaccines. The advice I am getting from leaders in the field is that they would wait till infants were a bit older before they compromise their immune system, which may be another cause of autism.

This is a hard and personal decicision that everyone has to make for themselves, and there is great risk to not get the shots for your children, but I think it is wiser to wait. I have seen 3 cases of children becoming autistic the day after the shots, and I find that too much of a coincidence.

Good Luck, C.

My pediatrician told me that it is more dangerous to put your child in the car and drive to the doctors' office than to get their immunizations.

I believe it is necessary to give your children shots. You never know what might happen. What are you so concern about?

I just read an article in Parenting magazine (written by a doctor) warning of the dangers of not getting your child immunized. She said that the mercury in shots that most people are afraid of is just trace amounts that has no effect on the children, but most shots now come without it anyway. Also, with many immigrants coming to America, there is still a big risk that your child could be exposed to the life threatening diseases that the immunizations are designed to protect against.

I've had both of my sons immunized & my youngest did develop a reaction to the MMR/ chicken pock immunization(it's a live virus that they inject, so it's more likely to cause a reaction than the others). He got a mild case of measles & one lone chicken pock. It was not fun, but I imagine it was much better than if he had gotten full blown measles or chicken pocks. My sister-in-law didn't get chicken pocks until she was in her 20's & it was such a strong case of them, she could have died! Personally, I'd rather take the small risk of having my kids immunized than the much larger risk of having them actually contract the diseases themselves.

Please educate yourself before making such an important decision. It is not only the mercury that you need to be aware of. There are other questionable ingredients such as formaldehyde, embryonic tissue, etc. Japan has the lowest adverse reaction rate because they don't vax until 2yrs old. A baby's organs and digestive system are very small and immature. The vax are toxin overload in their little bodies. Diseases were a problem in the 1800's when living conditions were deplorable and lack of sanitation was an issue. Today our living conditions are more sanitary. This is the reason diseases have diminished not because of vax.

Vax'd children are carriers of the diseases they are injected with. Some diseases require active immunity, so the vax isn't guaranteed. Chicken pox is one.

A strong, healthy immune system is a child's best defense. Limiting processed sugar, which diseases thrive on, and eating fruits and vegetables are a few ways to strengthen the immun system.

If you do decide to vax it is better to stretch them out. The combo shots are bad because if your son has an adverse reaction you don't know which one caused it. There are ped's who will do single shots but your insurance might not cover it. Dr's receive a kickback from the drug companies. Your child's health and safety aren't priority to them.

Non-vax'd kids are allowed in school, parents sign an exemption form stating it is against their medical beliefs to vax.

Doctors will try to scare you into getting the shots by telling you that your child could die or be injured from not getting the shots. The truth is that children do die and are injured for life from vaccinations. No doctor can tell you vaccines are completely safe. Vaccines are a pediatricians bread and butter. Research for yourself, and do not let the nurses/doctors give your precious baby the shots or strong-arm you into any before you have the time to study what each shot is and what are the risks of the shot vs. the risks of not getting the shots. Also check the ingredients. http://www.wnho.net/vaccine_ingredients.htm

Our family is opposed to abortion, so I would never inject my child with a shot that had aborted fetal cells in it.
http://www.dgwsoft.co.uk/homepages/vaccines/alternatives.htm
http://www.cogforlife.org/fetalvaccinetruth.htm
http://www.cogforlife.org/fetalvaccines.htm - those are the vaxes that include fetal cell lines.

There are hundreds of thousands of dollars awarded to families each year whose children are injured by vaxes and there is VAERS- which is the Vaccine Adverse Reaction Reporting System that is not very well known. http://www.nvic.org/Issues/VAERS.htm
http://www.medalerts.org/

I vaxed my first baby because I just did what the ped told me. When my 2nd baby was born, I did the research and decided not to vax. For us, there is a higher chance of reactions from the vaccines than the chance of actually catching the diseases. Especially since my husband has ADHD (which some now believe to be on the autistic spectrum) And most of the diseases that are vaxed for are mild, common childhood illnesses that you and I are NOT vaccinated for. Today the shot schedule is RIDICULOUS! A tiny baby whose immune system is still developing will receive an overload of toxins in their little bodies. And there are many many shots that we never received as children and we are just fine. Other shots are unneccessary, like Polio has been eradicated from the US and is not a danger to us anymore- the chances are higher that a child could be injured from the shot than actually get polio. And Hep B? A sexually transmitted disease that adults get from sex or needles? There is no reason to give this to a tiny baby- unless you the mom has Hep B. The chances of a baby dying from the HEP B shot is 10 times more likely than your baby catching a sexually transmitted disease. Chicken pox is a mild childhood illness that kids just get - just like measles and mumps were for our parents- normal childhood illnesses. Now we are vaxing childhood illnesses and trading mild childhood illnesses for more serious health problems later on in life. Vaccines are not 'mandatory' for school admittance as they will tell you. You can sign a waiver on the back of the blue school cards. In CA you can waive vaccines for religious or philisophical reasons. You just have to ask for the waiver because they won't tell you that that is an option! It really frustrates me that parents today don't even know they have the CHOICE not to vaccinate! Vaccination manufacturers make millions of dollars from unquestioning parents! And there are problems with vaccines;

If children do not get there shots they can devlope childhood diseases. By Not getting the shots for your children you are choosing to not protect them from diseases such as Hepatitis B
Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV)
DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis)
Hib (meningitis)
IPV (polio)
Influenza
MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
Varicella (chickenpox)
MCV4 (bacterial meningitis)
Hepatitis A
Some of these disease are contagious and sometimes fatal.

Also. If you dont have an immunization record for you child you will not be able to enroll your child into any school w/o an immunization record. There is nothing good about not giving your childs health a good start. Imnnuizations are always recommended

In 1999 they stopped using mercury in the core shots. So they are much safer now then they were. My son has autism and most likely the cause was his vaccinations. He was born in 1998.
There is one shot that still contains mercury, so I refuse to allow it to be given to my kids. It is the Flu shot. The pediatrician tried to talk me into it saying it was safer to have it than not have it, but I don't buy that at all.
No mercury for my kids... so just the core vaccinations required for school is what I have done.

I know there has been quite a lot of bad press about shots for children. But if you choose not to immunize your child, you had better do your research well. He will not be admitted to school without being immunized, and I don't know a way around this (but there night be one). Also, if you socialize with a group of people that choose not to immunize, the chance of actually contracting one of these crazy illnesses grows, because nobody has immunity towards it. There really is safety in numbers, when the numbers that you hang out with are protected!! As always, the decision is your, but it does not come without consequences. You will be denied access to public programs (school, athletic programs, social programs) without immunizations.

I have four children of my own and I know how you feel. My first baby I went threw everything by the book. But my second and third I didn't get their shots on time because of not having insurance but I eventually had to do it due to school because it is required. I have a mom that says they are important for their health. But I also have mom-in-law that feels that they are just injecting the vaccine for example the flu she says they are giving you the flu to see if your body can fight it off. I think if you want to do it do it in long run most likely you will be forced. You should do it now that he or she is little.

Do you mean administering the vaccinations yourself or just not giving them at all?

Coming from a medical standpoint, they are important to give. Yes, they are excessive. But unfortunately we live in a time where biochemical terrorism is moderatly high. Honestly, it's not a good reason but think of it this way, if some kind of disease we have not seen for decades was released today, it would be good that at least our children have been vaccinated against them. It's a start. As a military family, I worry about things like that happening. It's way far into the back of my mind but it does scare me. Just some food for thought.

I don't think that I would have a problem if properly taught how to administer the shots to my children. It may ease their minds too. My daughter screams everytime she sees the nurse that gives her the shots. She remembers her. I know they do get over that initial shock and some children don't even mind getting them after some time.
