Hello out there, I have a 15 year old daughter with acne, we went to see a dematologist and she was given 2 different types of medicine to use on her face. Delfin i think it was called and i can't remember the other one. At any rate they did ok as far as clearing up the pimples, but now she has blemishes. They had originally suggested that she take an antiboitic but i was a little sceptacle about that, because it was something she would have to take by mouth every day and probably for a long period of time. So i decided we would try the creams 1st and see how they would work. Now she's having breaks out again, and i know it can be several different things, hormonal, her diet, etc. Those 2 creams were $35/ea and that was with my insurance. So any suggestions and or advice would be great. She was to try Proactive, and it's not covered by insurance, and i really don't want to start spending a lot of money with no results. FYI-we are african american, and i don't know that ethnicity makes a difference in this case. THANKS!!

So What Happened?

Hello Everyone, thank you all for some really good suggestions and ideas, i think i might make one more visit to the dermatalogist, just to see what they will say this time around. It looks like Proactiv is a winner, she has been wanting to try it, but i thought is was expensive, but you all are telling me otherwise, so maybe that's what we will try next. I'll let you know after we try the Proactiv.

Thanks Again...

L.,
I am 35 and have had acne since I was 11. Anyway, the only thing that has worked for me is called Zap-It and would you believe it's only $15.00?? Anyway, I order it from a company called Melaleuca (actually my family uses all their home/beauty products). Anyway, the website is www.melaleuca.com and it may seem a little confusing at first, but it's really not and I can help you if you like. Feel free to call me ###-###-#### if you have questions.

L.,
My mother swears by cold cream by Ponds she said when she was younger she had really bad acne until someone suggested this to her. She has used it everynight since and my mother has very good skin. It is not very expensive so maybe it would b e worth a shot?

Hi, L.!
Hopefully your daughter got several samples of Differin, to see if it would work for her. And the tube you get at the pharmacy lasts a long while, and I believe it comes in different strenghs, but once you stop it,benifits are gone.
In my younger days I used Retin-A...and loved it.Now I use Renova, not for breakouts as it's intended use, but I swear It's the best wrinkle eraser out there.I'm 41, and never had a true blemish issue.
If I had 1 zit I ran to the Doc for a cure. But I have a friend who swears by Proactive..
Hope this helps!

I would definitely try the proactive. The system is simple to use, and works great. I used to pay about $50 for it, but now it's down to $20. I wish it has been invented when I was a teen because the antibiotics and retin-A available back then caused me severe sunburn (2nd degree burns) if I was in the sun at all. (And I did not normally have sun-sensitive skin).

Hi L., I have 2 teenage daughters (14 and 16) they both use the Proactiv and 1 daughter really takes better care of herself and uses it correctly and she loves it. Not many if any acne. The other one on the other hand only uses it when we tell her she needs to wash her face really good. It works when she uses it correctly also. It is really not expensive. I think that we pay $40.00 for each kit and only every 2-3 months. They will change the delivery for you to be sooner or later and if there is something in the kit that your daughter will not use then they will double up on what you need. They really work with you. I would try it. It is better than $70/mo. Good luck, T.

Hello L.,

I can tell you one thing, the Proactiv didn't work for me. I have bought everything under the sun in the stores for acne with no results. However, I have been using a product called Natures Cure. They have it for males and females. Its a creme with pills you take in the am and pm. These pills desolve in your mouth. There's a 30 day supply. I can say it has given me the best results thus far for my acne. I'm 1/2 African American myself. I highly recommend it and tell your daughter good luck with it.....

Hi L.,
Have you ever heard of Arbonne. I feel in love with the products afer struggling with Acne and seeing a instant difference with my skin and I started selling it. The Acne line has a wash, toner, moisturizer and suppliment you take orally that helps get it from the inside out. The products and suppliment is made of natural herbs and botanicals. The set is about $62 for the set and I can show you how to get them for 35% off. There is also a 45 day money back garentee. I can also get you some products to try out. Also I do mother daughter spa parties where you invite a few moms and there daughters over and do a spa night and you can earn $100 of free products for doing that. Let me know if I can help you out.

I have had problems with acne for over a decade. The only thing that worked for me is Proactiv. Get it as soon as you can because it really helps clear up acne and blemishes, and it really prevents new ones from forming.
It is only $29.99 for a two-month supply. That is $15 per month, and only about 50 cents per day. It is so very worth it. They actually have two solutions: one normal and one extra strength. They both work very well, but if your daughter has an especially difficult case, try the extra strength.
It is worth it. I promise. I went into it very skeptical, but I thought, well, I've tried a lot of other, less expensive things that have added up to a lot more than this. But it really works!

It is likely she would have excellent results with the antibiotics, but if you don't want to go that route there is a Neutrogena product that has the same ingredients as Proactiv:

http://acnekit.neutrogena.com/

It looks like there is even a $5 coupon available on that web page. I have acne-prone skin and this combination really helped - not quite as well as the antibiotics, but it was definitely the next best thing. (I'm 34, so I've tried a LOT of products!) I really liked the oil-free moisturizer especially, and it really helped to calm my skin. I really hope this helps - I KNOW how frustrating this can be! Good luck!

This brings me back to highschool all over again! Your situation sounds exactly like mine. My mom took me to the dermo so many times I can't even count. I took the oral antibiotics, retin-A, Differin gel etc. The one that worked the best was Proactiv. It literally starts working in 2 days. My problem with it was I was allergic to Benzoyl peroxide, so my face would get red and itch like crazy! But, if I wasn't allergic to Benzoyl Peroxide I would have continued to use it. The stuff is great. I believe you can find it for around $20 now. Good luck.
