Every ones advice is great but remember table food has more salt and spice and baby food is bland and mushy.
I am having a hard time getting my 1 year old twins to eat table foods. I have been trying a little bit at each feeding since about 9 months. Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to get them to eat more table foods? There are certain foods that they will eat like cheese, yogurt, and cerial, but that's about it. Everything else I put in their mouth gets spit out! I don't get it b/c I will feed them the number 3 jar of baby food which has chunks of veggies and noodles in it and they will eat it. Please help me!

I recieved alot of responses about "I am running out of ideas to feed my pickey one yr old". Check them out. She is still picky to a point, but I learned that she will eat when she is hungry. Also, I have realized that the more I try and give her the more likely she will try it over and over again even if she doesnt like the first few times, she eats it the third, and fourth time.....Spag/mac n chz/yogart/mash pot/turnips"made like mash pot"/cous cous/dried fruits/avacodo/bananas/oatmeal/pancakes/chkn/soy nut butter and jelly sandwiches/quiche/shakes/sweet pot loaf/eggplant parm/zucchini...I make them like frech fries, but bake them with a little salt and pepper...I could give you great ideas...to get them feeding themselves.....
I had the same problem with my oldest, and that's why I refused to give my youngest child baby food out of a jar. Your best bet is not to buy anymore baby food, at all. I would have them eat what you eat. If you need to, chop or blend it up in a mini-food processor. My little one ate mashed potatoes (sometimes, yes, I did cheat with the boxed flaked ones!). Another thing that may sound gross to you, but both of my kids liked, was the frozen orange squash in one of those 10 oz. boxes. Take out a couple of tablespoons and nuke it. Macaroni and cheese, peas, spaghetti, cooked carrots, are other things my kiddies liked. We didn't give my youngest any option. She sat up to the table with us and ate or didn't get anything else. The only thing she won't eat right now is salad, but she likes carrots.
Perhaps they just aren't ready for the table food.?? Try real chunk applesauce. Or maybe it's a texture thing for them... My son refused to eat anythig slippery/slimey until a month ago (at age 2!!)
Were they premature at all?? Shouldn't have much to do with it, but it could! Have you talked to your DR at all??
I had the same problem with my daughter at this age. A few things that I found helpful: the Greebver gradutes line (thecracker are great, the pasta pick-ups, and the banana cookies) fruits and veggies quartered, (she loved cherry tomatoes and grapes)and anything with peanut butter spread VERY thin. (apple slices and crakers)
Now she is 15 months and loves to feed herself. Good luck.
I don't have any advice for you but I saw that you have twins and are my age I'm 27 and I have 8month old boy girl twins. My daughter went through a stage where she wouldn't eat anything unless she could feed herself. I ended up doing only foods that she could pick up and eat herself. Peas, crackers, mac and cheese, ect. Now at 13 months she eats all table foods. There is nothing I don't let her try, unless its a high allergy food(like peanut butter and all.) I also agree that you should try eating in front of them so they try to copy you. My daughter wants to eat everything we eat.
I have a 23 month old who is quite a picky eater. When we were starting to try to transition him to table food, I never thought it would happen...we tried logically going to 2nd and 3rd stage foods but the chunkiness made him gag...it was either pureed or nothing (or toast and cheerios, anything crunchy) The first thing he tried that wasn't either of those options was the Gerber diced fruits and veggies...he loved that they were big boy food and he could pick them up on his own and shove them into his mouth...not sure if your little one would like them or not but anythings worth a shot...
I don't know if this will be overly helpful, but try regular canned or frozen vegetable. Try the canned mixed, french cut green beans, and peas and carrots. Noodles, rice and cereal like cheerios also work. In the protein department, try small pieces of tender chicken, little pieces of ham (cut in squares like on restaurant salad bars) and cheese. Instead of feeding it to them, put it on the table in front of them. Treat it like finger food. Both of my kids are very independent. Sometimes, the difference in getting them to eat something or them refusing was in who did the feeding. One of my baby books suggested putting the food into ice cube trays. The size of an ice cube is approximately a serving size for their age. It also helps with their hand to eye coordination. In the meantime, try some new food while also giving them one item that you know they like. Good luck with them.
I have the same promblem with my one year old. thier is certian foods he eats and certian ones he don't eat. keep trying they will eat it and if they still wont eat wait a day or two and then try agian. but keep trying and don't give up.
and also keep encourage them to eat it try eating it in front of them they should copie you. my son copy's me all the time. if they spit it out say its ok will try agian later and move to another food then go back to the other food and try it agian and try giving them a litte bit of milk then try it agian. never get upset in front of them.
i would suggest trying pick up foods like peas or ravioli cut up small enough not to choke they may just want to do it themselves
