Private Schools (K-12) in N.Dallas Area -- Which Ones Are Good?

Need some help from some local mamas! Recently in my daughter's (3 y/o) preschool "parent/teacher" review, we were told that our daughter was fairly advanced in her skillset and that we should start thinking private schools for Kinder on up. She's already grasping kinder/1st grade skills, so the concern is that once she gets to that level she could get bored and disengage (potentially)! We somewhat expected this as my husband was one of those kids too! Now the question is, being a public school kid, I have no clue about all the different private schools in the area!! There are TONS!!!! Which are good for gifted kids? Which have smaller ratios? What are your opinions on where to start the search? I hate to just start emailing all of them and would like to somewhat narrow the field based on input from folks with experience!! Thanks a bunch!!!

I assume that private school tuition is not a problem for you, but if it were me, I would check out the public school options before I made that kind of investment. There are some really good "gifted programs" in some of the public schools. I am not really familiar with Allen ISD. My kids are both "gifted" and we have been very happy with the Academy programs in Garland ISD. You can always choose to switch to a private school, if the public school is not meeting her needs.

Yes there are tons! We had a similar situation with our daughter. Her PreK teacher told us when she was 2 that she'd be bored eventually at that school (a Methodist church preschool), so we looked at several schools (ESD, Parish & Lamplighter). We ended up only applying to Lamplighter and sending her there. We love it. She started at 3 and is now entering kindergarden at 5. It's a great environment for kids. It only goes to 4th grade which is one of the things we liked. For us, it was hard to imagine where we wanted her to go to high school at 2! (That's how old she was when we were applying.) Lamplighter has an amazing campus, amazing teachers, wonderful traditions and great kids. Oh and she learns so much - she's not even in kindergarden and she's reading, adding, subtracting. The other day, she even divided! You should definitely put Lamplighter on your list of schools to consider!

The main reason to chose private school is environment and philosophy. What is yours? Both my kids r in Christian School and have been from K-12. My advise to you is don't try to make little Kindergarden rocket scientists... They don't need that kind of intense until college when it matters. Now they need to learn how to be good human beings, obedient to authority, and able to get along in social situations. This is the time to explore music, sports, dance, art, etc.. when there is time to see what interests and talents they have.
There is no better investment to make than in tuition for your child, but consider your motivation.
