Try www.greatschools.net. They don't rate the private schools since rating is based on standardized testing, but it will give you a list of private schools in your area.
I'd like to start researching private elementary schools in the Plano/Allen area. Not really sure where to start, just hoping someone would have advice, recommendations or experience with this. TIA!

you can find some info in the Dallas Child Magazine...i know that a certain time of year they have ads for all the private schools in dalls area. i imagine they may have some of that info on a webpage...though i'm not sure. i'd go to which ever schools you are thinking about before hand and ask for a tour etc. I love our kids private school (faith based) but i wish they had more in the way of help for kids that are stuggling academically. my kids arne't necessarily struggling a lot but when there is a difficulty its almost like we have to go pay for more from a tutor rather than get help from a teacher or someone at the school we're already paying tuition to. but otherwise i like it there a lot. i'ts a NE Dallas school, though. i'm just using it as an example that you should look into all the procedures at a school to see if it will fit your needs and remember too that the tuition rate that is in effect when you enter will NOT be the one next year the next year or ever again! LOL we have had a tuition increase every year since starting. what we could afford when we started there became something else and then we had another child and now we have both of them...well, i may have made a different decision if i'd realized that. as to see or read their projections for tuition in the coming years or their past projections toget a feel for rate increases and your ablility to keep your kid(s) in that school. good luck
We send our kids to North Texas Christian Academy in McKinney. It's a small, but growing, school that has very a strong academic and spiritual basis. I have been very impressed with their ability to listen to the concerns of parents an actually make the changes that are necessary (like they added a new man to teach science "Captain Science").
They go from 6 months to 6th grade right now and have committed to going through at least the 8th grade. Their prices are much lower than other schools in the area, but require that all their teachers are certified. Here is their website: http://www.northtexaschristian.org/index.php?option=com_f...
Probably the first thing you will want to determine is whether you want a secular private school or faith based. That will significantly narrow your choices. Many people choose schools based on the curriculum. Some schools have a different focus. St. Timothy's focuses on kids that have learning differences, ones who have trouble in a traditional environment. A friend's daughter attends a special academy where she goes to school for 4 hours so she can train for gymnastics the rest of the day. I can't remember the name of the school, I think it might be Spring Creek Academy. Unlike public school, which tries to be one size fits all, private schools offer more choices. You may be able to make a short list of possible schools, but if you don't know exactly your kids' learning styles and needs, you might not be able to make your final decision until your kids are school aged.
I hope this helps.
