I feel every year like this balloons but I was looking for some advice on who to buy a gift for at school. When I was growing up, my mom only got something for my teacher and that was it. I also include the music, PE, art and Spanish teachers as well---I don't remember my mom ever buying for the specials teachers. And I know she didn't buy anything for the principal---Do you buy something for your principal???? We really like the principal but I don't think it's expected at all either. Then you have to buy for the asst principal and then for me it raises the question do you buy for the front office staff? Just looking for a little bit of standard on if I am up to par or not with the masses. :0) Thanks

What can I do next?

I gave my daughters primary teachers and specials teachers art, PE etc cookie in a jar homemade gifts. I also went to Michaels and got a ornament for a dollar or 2 and gave it to the primary teachers. It is a nice cheap homemade gift. I am responding late but there is always next year.

My husband is a principal and he doesn't get gifts from a lot of kids. Give to whom you want to give. The people you give to will appreciate the gift and if you aren't as close to others don't worry. Or do a rotation and give to them next year.
Another idea is to do a cookie platter or group gift to the office staff for all the hard work they put in. That would go over well and they would know you appreciate the work that they do on a daily basis.

We buy for my child's teacher and that's it. A lot of times the class Mom actually takes care of it and just asks us to pitch in.

I like the idea of getting something for the office staff and principal though - maybe flowers or a big poinsettia for the entire office? That way it's not individual and you don't have to worry about the expense or trying to figure out something they'll use. I am not a fan of useless gifts that just sit on a shelf!

Merry Christmas!

We always get the main teacher something, and that may be all. But if there is another teacher with whom my child has a special relationship with, they will often ask me if they can get something for them as well. Or if someone on the staff has perhaps gone above and beyond, etc. It can get out hand really fast, otherwise! I like to give them bookstore gift cards, because what teacher wouldn't like that?

This year our district has a pretty strict policy on gift giving to the staff for some reason. In the past I did like little Starbucks cards for all the art, gym teachers and so on. Then this year my daughters teacher said she didn't want anything but to donate supplies needed to the class. I think if you are on good terms with the principal it is fine.
I got my son's preschool teacher a little mixed bag of goodies, nothing major and the director of the preschoola she subs for his class a lot and he really likes her.
The other option is to get in touch with other parents in the class and combine resources and maybe a movie or dinner out as Teachers get so many "little nonsense" type gifts that they may like a night out with their spouse or family.
