I searched the archives of questions on Mamapedia, but am looking for even more input...

We live in the Ravenswood neighborhood, my daughter will be 3 in July and I'd like to enroll her in a part time preschool near our home that doesn't cost me $5,000 a year - or more. I'd LOVE to find a Christian school, however, that's not a requirement.

Which schools did you check out? Where do your kids go? Anywhere you'd suggest avoiding?

We love Cardinal Bernadin Montessori (disversey and paulina). Just go have a visit. You will be amazed at the level of respect, kindness and love of learning that happens in the classroom. We have been there for 3 years and I have two children enrolled. My plan was to attend just for one year until we enrolled in our parish school (which I also love) but we just can't seem to leave the wonderful environment. It is full day only which was a concern at first, but I found it worked great for the kids and myself. They have 2 day, 3 day and 5 day programs. I think it starts at $3,000 for 3 full days (which I reccomend for that age) and goes up to $6,000 for 5 full days. School is out June 1st so visit before they are out for the season and bring your daughter with. That is my suggestion for any school you are considering.

Contact your local child care resource and referral agency. They can provide you with a list of programs in your area. In Chicago, you can call ###-###-#### or go to www.actforchildren.org.

If we still lived in the city we would have hands down sent our kids to North Park Covenant Church's preschool on Christiana Avenue. It would be worth checking out.

Good luck!

My sons are well past school age now, but a number of years ago, there was Ravenswood Baptist at Sunnyside and Damen; don't know if it is there any more. There is also Lake Shore School at Bryn Mawr and Clark, but I don't know tuition rates. Finally, my sons attended Northside Catholic Academy, and I think the preschool site is at Catalpa and Broadway at St. Ita's. My sons attended NCA from preschool to eighth grade when we had a campus at St. Gregory's. There is also a school in our (St. Gregory's) elementary school building at 1643 W. Bryn Mawr, but I don't remember the name, I think it might be the Asian School, but it seems that they have more than Asian students. Good luck.
