Has anyone had any bad experiences with this vitamin? Is it hard on the stomach? I can't stand taking tylenol, so I guess you can imagine my thoughts on taking this vitamin. Also, I think Im afraid of feeling nausea again. I am finally past that stage.

What can I do next?

For the first 5 months of my pregnancy I couldn't take any prenatal vitamins because of extreme nausea so I talked to my OB and ended up taking 2 kids multivitamins, one in the morning and one at night; this way I was able to keep them down as long as I had a decent meal with a good amount of protein.

If you are having any kind of nausea with the pill or are having trouble swallowing it, you could ask your doctor for a chewable prenatal. When I was pregnant with my son and having morning sickness, I talked to the doctor and they gave me a grape chewable prenatal. LOVED it!

I only took over-the-counter pre-natal vitamins. There are many different brands, the main thing is to make sure they have enough folic acid (check with your doctor for the amount). Also, take them right before bed so you don't feel the nausea they might cause. It always worked for me (and I felt pukey most of my pregnancy).

Also, I can't tell from your post if you're having a hard time swallowing it or if it's just upsetting your stomach. If you're having a hard time swallowing such a big pill, try any of the following:
1. Swallow with carbonated drinks. The bubbles help open your throat and make it easier to swallow.
2. Ask if you can either get a chewable prescription or if you could take Flintstones vitamins and an extra pill for folic acid (it might be smaller)
3. Cut the vitamin in half with a pill splitter and swallow it that way.
4. Crush it up and put it in a sweet, non-acidic drink (apple juice, grape juice, kool-aid, etc.)

I one or two of these suggestions helps you. Congrats on your pregnancy!! :-D

Hi R.,
My name is Cheryle and I just want to share something with you that I believe will help if you are willing to look into it. My daughter had the same problems with prenatals. Many doctors have been recommending a product called Juice Plus. It is 15 different fruits and veggies and 2 grains that have been reduced to a powder with the sugar removed and has no salt. The research from over 20 universites is amazing and it is published in 13 medical journals. Mothers who use Juice Plus have had fewer premature deliveries, C sections and lower incidence of preeclampsia. Newborns of these Mothers tend to have lower incidence of respiratory distress syndrome and if breatfeeding all the nutrients will transfer to your baby. It will not make you feel ill because it is all from mother nature which our bodies know what to do with but isolated vitamins (man made) our body does not.
I hope you will take a look to see if this would work for you. My grandchildren are healthier today because of Juice Plus. The future of our childrens health depends on us to educate oursevles on what good nutritions is.
Go to www.cksharesjuiceplus.com and click on Science then What the Health Professionals Say and you can listen to 30-40 sec. video clips by several doctors. I know you will be happy that you did.
My email is ____@____.com I will be happy to send you more information.
This is in capsule form. I forgot to tell you that!! We also have gummies and chewables for children.

Take Care,
Cheryle :-)

Take it before bed about an hour after dinner, this is how I took it so it wouldn't make me sick.

R., I don't know this one but I have been taking a Vegan one that you can find in the organic section at Fred Meyer (I've also picked it up at Bartell's). I have a super sensitive tummy and it hasn't effected mine at all. I take it every night before bed. I can try to find the name of it and let you know.

Postscript - I should have read everybody else's responses first. It's the Rainbow Light Prenatal. :)

Here's what my mom does. She can't take ANY vitamins because they ALL bother her stomache. She grinds them up, dissolves them in a square bucket of warm water, and soaks her feet in the water for 20 minutes a day. It actually works! Her hair & nails started getting heathier and she felt better. She's been doing this for years.
And it's good for you to have "down" time.....

I haven't taken this vitamin. But I'm curious -- why this one? I did a quick search and noticed that it's perscription only. Is it something your doc recommended?

I take the Rainbow Light Prenatal One and haven't had any negative side effects. I have never had nausea with this one like I have had with others.

I took this vitamin during my last two pregnancies and had no problems with it, its the only one I never had problems with. I took it right before bed and was never bothered with nausea. It now falls under Wal-Marts $4 prescriptions, if thats where you shop. I don't think you can buy over the counter for that price!

Dear R.,

It is great you are trying to take such great care of your baby. As pregnant women we try to watch what we eat and eliminate foods from our diets to protect our growing babies, plus take our vitamins. The Isotonic line of vitamins has a Prenatal vitamin that is in powder form that you mix with water and it tastes good too. The powder form mixed with water makes the solution isotonic with your body, meaning it is ready to be absorbed by your intestines very quickly. No having to digest and breakdown a pill. No more swallowing a big pill. I have a hard time swallowing pills and have to talk myself through the process. Taking this in solution form makes it so much easier for me and gets the vitamins to my body faster. Here are the links so you can read about these for yourself, the science and any frequently asked questions. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

I want to say that is the vitamin I took when I was pregnant. I went through different kinds and the Prenate Elite didn't upset my stomach. Try it for a day or two and see. Ask your OBGYN for other samples of different kinds and see which ones you agree with. Also, when taking vitamins, try not to take it with milk. I don't remember why, but there was a reason. Good luck with those pesky vitamins.

I am taking that vitamin now and it's very easy to swallow (don't be intimidated by the size cuz it's slippery when wet). I have not experienced any nausea either while using the vitamin.
This is what my dad used to tell me. Think about when you're eating and how BIG those bites are that you're actually swallowing and you're afraid of this tiny pill? Just take a big drink of juice (I didn't like using water when I was little) and pretend that you're just swallowing a big bite of food. It's all mental. :) Good luck.

I took Prenate Elite for over 3 years (2 pregnancies and breastfeeding). Taking it in the evenings worked for me = I had no problems.

Hi R. -

I would like to help you understand that the reason why vitamins are hard on the stomach is because the minerals and vitamins used in the supplement are not food form but pharmacical based. The body is not able to completely absorb and utilize the vital minerals and vitamins that our bodies need. i.e. the supplement I take, the calcium is 98% absorbable because it is in a food form and our bodies reckonize food over non food form of calcium. I take my vitamin at times when I am hungry and within 15 min. my hunger is gone!!! I'm glad that I am paying for something my body acutally uses - W.
