I couldnt ever take the prenatal vitamins that the doctor prescribed because of nausea and vomitting, so i took the walmart brand prenatal vitamins with two flintstones vitamins, and folic acid a day... I mean, ask you doctor first, but this is what worked for me.

Hi C., I work for a wellness company and they have a prenatal vitamin that contains the Omega 3 fatty acids that you really need to function happily. I unfortunately did not take them regularly with either of my pregnancies. I did take a fish oil vitamin though. If you want more information about the prenatal with my company. Just send me a personal message.

Good luck with number 2. My second one came along when my first was 19 months. So 2 boys that close is great. They will be best friends forever.

I worked for a ob/gyn for over 6 six years. I've learned that you should call your dr and ask for a prescription. I like prima care. It has all the new stuff like omega 3, amino fatty acids and the fish oil stuff they are saying everyone needs when they are pregnant or trying. The dr I use to work for would recommend the husband take a good vitamin as well when trying to concieve. He always said taking prenatal vitamins was the key . It could determine weather you have a einstien or a "bubba". He was very blunt with all his patients. Also if you can get on them 6 months before you concieve and if for some reason you have bad morning sickness when you do get pregnant you'll be ok to skip for awhile during your pegnancy and you don't have to regret not being able to take them because you already have a good foundation and they are in your system. Hope this helps.

ps.
Don't mess with the over the counter prenatals if you don't have to. They will never be a good as prescription. Don't get me wrong anything is better than nothing and an extra folic acid is great advice, but ask your dr what he recommends. If I'm not mistaken the prima care vitamin I recommended has some folic acid in it.

We are "trying" for our first and I take the One Source from Wal-Mart. They were very inexpensive, aren't huge (since you take two) and they are coated in this pink stuff that - don't think I'm weird - smells like strawberry yogurt, which helps me to take them every day.

My doctor prescribed PreNate but I find the over-the-counter work fine, brand name or store brand both. The most important ingredient is folate, so I would suggest comparing the lists on the back or ask your ob/gyn.

C.,
I have used several different kinds of prenatals, and the one I like the most is PrimaCare. There are two different kinds (1x daily and 2x daily) I have been on the 2x daily for well over a year b/c I am still nursing. I have found that these don't make me feel sick like some of the others and I have had none of the refluex that comes with some of the over the counter vitamins. hope this helps and good luck with #2!!!!

I liked precare..I think was the name of them. They were a big purple pill that you only took once a day. They didn't make me sick either.

I take a brand from Walmart called OneSource. The best benefit to me is that instead of taking one large pill you take two small pills. This has helped a lot through the morning sickness. The content seemed to be the same and I don't remember them being very expensive. Hope this helps.

My doctor prescribed mine for me, and the pharmacist said that the main difference in the ones he prescribed and the over the counter ones, were that the prescription ones had a little more folic acid, and double the iron. I would ask your doctor and/or pharmacist.

Hi, I would suggest the Walgreen's brand of prenatal vitamins. They worked great for me since taking the prescripted vitamins were very harsh on me. The Walgreen's brand comes in a dark bottle with a purple label and they worked great. I still take them because we are working on #2. They have a high folic acid content and low iron. Doctors say that the iron does not matter that much anyways just as long as you are getting some source of iron.
Good luck,
J.

I used the Target brand with my second pregnancy and they worked out great... they didn't bother my stomach at all (I used a Rx brand with my first baby that tasted terrible & gave me heartburn). You should also take a Folic Acid supplement with it to be sure you're getting all of your daily need. I had my OB/Gyn look at them and she was surprised at how close they were to a Rx brand and told me I could continue using them if they were working. I'm still breastfeeding my 4-month-old and using the Target prenatal vitamins. Best wishes & God bless!

I agree with Carla that Primacare is really great. I took them throughout my recent pregancy, but after delivery and while nursing him, I am just taking over the counter ones. I'm not going to pay extra for prescription prenatal vitamins while I am nursing him for a year or more. I think it's worth it to get the good ones while pregnant, though.

There are vitamins that are better than others and the body can absorb better. It can be more expensive but worth it in the end for you and your baby. I used Melalueca's Prenatal Vitamins. If you know of a distributor, buy through them, or you can go on Ebay and see if anyone is selling them there. I don't use any other vitamins than theirs and have used them for years! They are the best on the market.

Hi C.,

In responce to your questions about Prenatal Vitamins, I suggest that you use Melaleuca's Omega-3 Prenatal Vitamins. I have five children and when I was expecting we did'nt have all the options as you do today. There has been so much more research on what mother's and unborn children need to have a much healthier life. Research has proven that Omega-3 is necessary to improve babies brain and eye development. To find out more about this product you can contact me at workathomeunited.com/gingerv.

I personally get the cheap bottle at our Walmart. My doctor told me that they are virtually no difference in what they have in them. In the beginning I had to take them with a small snack or meal but really it is about what your system can handle. If you get sick you may need to try a different kind. I am in my second pregnancy and I use Onesource.

I took a brand called Stuart Prenatal vitamins. I bought them over the counter at CVS Pharmacy. They also have them at Walgreen's pharmacy. They are somewhat expensive though. I seem to remember that a bottle of 100 was close around $27
