I am looking for pregnancy massages...does anyone have any recommendations? I hate just "googling" and going with someone that way.
Thanks!
Oops ... I'm in Denver. :)

I am a massage therapist myself; I would recommend looking for someone who is nationally certified by the NCTMB (National Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork). If they have achieved that level of certification then they are sure to be well educated. Ask about their schooling, how long did it take them to learn massages therapy? 12 months or so is good, more is better, a weekend course at some non-accredited school is BAD and they should not call themselves massage therapists. Also avoid anyone who has not had SPECIFIC training in prenatal massage, there is really not a huge difference in how the massage will be, mostly you will just need to have lots of pillows for support, if you are in your second or third trimester you will either lie on your side rather than your front or you will have a special pregnancy cut out table or a big pregnancy body support system that will allow you to lie prone (tummy down) for no more than 15 minutes (being prone too long is not advisable). I recommend calling chiropractic offices to see if they employ a massage therapist, many do. Then ask to talk to the massage therapist on the phone about his or her credentials. Or you can call spas and do the same. Your OB or midwife might be another person who can give you a good recommendation of a massage therapist. If you are a patient of a chiropractor (finding a good one of course is another process to get through!) who employs a massage therapist then your insurance may pay for part of your massage. I used to work for a chiropractor and some of my clients paid only 11 dollars after insurance so it was easily affordable. Good luck, getting a prenatal massage feels wonderful and it really is good for you! There are very few contra-indications, if you have high blood pressure do not get a massage, or if you have pitting edema (extreme swelling) do not get a massage. If I lived in Denver you could give me a call, but I’m in Pocatello, Idaho, too bad! I love giving prenatal massages!
Hi A.:
I am a massage therapist in Fort Collins and have been doing this for 14 years. I would suggest checking the local schools that offer Pre-natal massage certification for graduates also check out the Doula's in the area alot of them are massage therapist as well. The state of Colorado just started a registration of Massage therapist so check the dept of registration and make sure the Massage therapist you select has registered. You can check the American Massage therapist association website or the IMA website, these are two associations that are out there at have links to their members.
I wish you the best of luck if you ever come to fort collins I would be glad to help. Pre-natal massages are wonderful. Ask some of the ladies in the waiting room at your next doc they will probably know someone. Good Luck.

Hello A.!
This is such a great thing to do for yourself and your baby! I got massages every month while pregnant and I have the most relaxed baby now! I attribute it partly to that, walking and yoga! I wish you a great pregnancy journey!
I know someone named Tammy who will do massages in the home for 60 bucks. She is fabulous massage therapist and who I used for my massages. I will email your her number if your interested.
Stay well - C.
I am a birth doula and send my clients to Miranda Cacek at A Peaceful Escape. I think the website is www.apeacefulescape.com

oh sad! I have a best friend who is the most AMAZING massage therapist, but I live in UT. Good Luck!
I had a prenatal massage at Massage Envy and it was great (except that she talked too much) My advice is make sure they are certified in prenatal massage and that they have the right pillows and equipment. Then make sure they know you need to relax and maybe even fall asleep, so keep the talking to the minimum! Good Luck!
Valerie Bowker-Davis was my prenatal massage therapist and I've recommended her to many others. She was fabulous and I Highly recommend her. her number is ###-###-####, The funniest part of this is that her husband is my contractor and he's in my basement right now painting my daughter's bedroom so I just ran downstairs and got her number for you!
If you'd like to come up to Boulder, there is no one better than A Mellow Mood--she specializes in pre- and post-natal massage and saved me just after my daughter was born. She's good enough that she is affiliated with the Foothills Community Hospital (she is located just across Arapahoe from the hospital so that they could refer people to her.) http://www.amellowmood.com. They even have free babysitting for after baby is born & will take breastfeeding breaks during the massage (without penalizing you for the time.) Here's the menu, which you'll noticed is so focused on moms and babies, as they have infant massage as well. http://www.amellowmood.com/pdf/AMM_menu2008.pdf
Harmony's Family in Cherry Creek is Awesome. They have the right pillows & set up so I was able to lie on my stomach until 8 months pregnant with twins! What a treat!!
I had one done at Beau Visage in the Tech Center and one at Antoine de Chez in Cherry Creek when I was about 6-7 months pregnant. Both were very good and worth it!
Hope this helps!

Vimo.com (used to be) a site that local people left their thoughts on local dr's. It was a good way to see what people thought of their dr's and such. I would think the site is still there. Good Luck
Hey A.,
I am not sure where you are at but if you are able to come to Fort Collins, I highly recommend Tiffany at GTS therapeutics www.gtsmassage.com ###-###-#### She is phenomenal and knows exactly what to do to make everything better! (plus she has children of her own so is sympathetic to our issues and is fully certified with more than the minimum education so you know you are in good hands!) Good luck and congrats!

Hi A.,
I am a massage therapist. So my advice would be if you have a regular therapist ask them first if they do prenatal. If not ask them for recommendations. If you dont already have one. Then try looking at local spa advertisements. Most times they adverstise prenatal. Also make sure when you check in that they do actually know what prenatal massage is. Also if it is your first prenatal massage most places have a waiver for you to sign before you start. Good luck and Congrats.
Try Massage Envy. They are all over they place and they are a great place to get a massage. I get one there every month and when I have went in to get a massage, I have seen pregnat women before sitting in the waiting area for massages, so I am sure they do them there.
I highly recommend Carolyn Wacaser at Colorado Center for Health (http://coloradocenterforhealth.com/). She does prenatal massage and she also has a program called "Bouncing Back from Baby" for post-partum work. I did both and it was great!!

Here is the name and number for my massage therapist. Her name is Jessica and her number is ###-###-####. She is an amazing massage therapist! Centrally located as well.
M. in Denver
This is the only spa in the area that I trust: (Boulder) http://www.mariannaskincare.com/fit-pregnancy.shtml
You may also check with Belly Bliss in Cherry Creek.
I used Shirley at Panache in Boise. I could barely walk and still had 3 weeks left to go. She really worked out some kinks that loosened my muscles enough to stop the pain down my back and behind. Make sure the special maternity pad is adjusted so you're comfortable. She'll work with it until it feels right for you.
Let them know when you call that you are prego and how many weeks. Good luck! OOPS! Just saw that you're in Denver! Try an AVEDA salon and spa...

I used to get wonderful prenatal massages at Sensorielle Spa in Boulder. At first glance it looks a little pricey, but the listed price includes tip.
Yes, yes and yes! Deb McGowan at Discover Chiropractic is amazing. I have had a lot of massage and I have to say she is one of the best! She is fantastic at prenatal massage and you'll love the office she is in. Her number is ###-###-#### and the office is located at 92nd and Olde Wadsworth. I'm telling you... you'll love her!
