So What Happened?

Thank you for the info. I have a new granddaughter who was born on 12/15 and weighed 3lbs 2ozs. She was a 28 weeker. The NICU says she is doing VERY well for being so early. She is off all IV meds, trying to remove the ox today. I have been told premies can change day to day. We have never had one this early, so I just want to read up on general info. I went for a visit yestesday, and her nurse let me hold her. I was so shocked ! I fell apart. I was told I would be able to hold her for a while, only her mom & dad. What a special gift that was !

BTW, I have 13 kids. :)

My 8 year old was born at 28 weeks and was 2.9lbs, he had aton of medical problems while in the nicu. You are right you have to take premes day by day and some days hour by hour, my son was doing great and than all of the sudden he had 3 infections in his blood, they were giving him blood 2 times a day for about a week, the infections where comming from the IV in his little arm. Once they pulled out the IV he responded to the treatments and went home a day after his due date. But by the time he was 3 the doctors couldn't believe that it was the same small boy that was once so sick. I wouldn't worry to much it is very hard at the time, visiting the nicu, trust me those days are still fresh in my mind. But kids are strong these days and with the meds that they have it is heaven sent. Good luck and I hope baby will be ok.

hi i am the mom of 5 preemies twins 23weekers (deceased) twin 35 weekers and a singleton 36 weeker there is not a whole lot you can do at 28 weeks but pray and be by there side watch there blood gases they are taken daily by nicu and remember at that gestation they like firm touch not stroking. females do better than males when born that early. dont give up hope anything past 25 weeks and they have a good chance of no long term problems. my 23 weekers one was stilborn(son) the other a female (taylor) lived 17 days for a baby that weighed less than a can of soda i think thats great.

Hello D., are you a mother of 13 children or of a 13yr old I was a little confused. but doesn't matter. to your question there are so many different ways of finding out imformation. you can get imformation from on-line,you could get pamplets from hospitals, ob-gyn offices that would be your best start you could even call to see if they would send you pamplets from their offices if you could not get away from work before they close. hope that helps you a little good luck to you.
