Pregnant and Do Not like My OBGYN, Any Good Recommendations?

Hello! I just found out I'm pregnant with our second child, were very excited, but am really unhappy with my new OB, more an office assistant there that takes blood, checks you in, is in the room with the doctor..etc. (who I would have to be in contact with the whole pregancy) plus I'm not thrilled with the OB. I had a nightmare experience with my son, the I saw the midwife the whole time and then the OB had to preform an emergency C-section and from there on out it was the worst experience with him and the hospital. This was at a hospital that was supposed to be wonderful.(In Clearwater) Now we've moved to East Orlando, and I'm terrified my experience will be the same this time around. If anyone can give me a good recommendation for a OB I would really really apprectiate it. I will have to have another C-section, so If anyone has had one and loved there OB and hospital please let me know! Thank you all in advance!!

What can I do next?

I can't help with an OB because mine moved out of state right after my son was born, but as for a hospital, you can not beat Winnie Palmer. It is the best place to have a child, and incredible if you have to have a c-section!

It depends on your idea of a good experience. I use Winter Park OB/GYN and they deliver at Winter Park Hospital. I have visited friends who delivered at Winnie Palmer and it just seemed like a baby mill to me, but that's an outsider's point of view (I delivered my middle child there before they opened the whole new Winnie Palmer part, and I hated it-- the rooms were tiny and they didn't let me leave my baby at the nursery- they made me keep her in the room.) At Winter Park, they have an electronic security system and I loved the staff both times I delivered there... Anyway, at Winter Park OB/GYN, they have several doctors so for my first pregnancy I saw them all at least once. The one I liked the least during a regular office visit ended up deleivering my son as an emergency c-section on Valentine's Day eleven years ago. He did an amazing job and I ended up needing to do a scheduled c-section for my now-two-year-old so I scheduled it with him. I think his deal is he's OK during office visits but it's like he thinks they're boring and he really lives for the deliveries!! His name is Dr Breit. I go to Dr Dukes in the same office for in-between-babies annual appointments because he's just a nicer guy, but Dr Breit is an amazing doctor who I HIGHLY recommend for c-sections

I love my Dr., Dr. Thomas Gibbs, ###-###-#### Delivered my babies at the Palmer hospitals, loved the office, loved the staff, 3 of my friends use him, they love him, we all have thought about having another baby just cause the experience with him is so great. He listened to all my concerns, did what I wanted with my delivery, couldn't ask for a better office. And the Palmer hospitals are wonderful, too. 3 of my 4 were born there (1st born in PA) What a great experience the whole thing was.

My doctor was amazing. I had to have an emergency c-section with my son, and the doc knew that it was really not what I wanted (based on some discussions we had about complications my mom had with us). He tried everything to try to go another route. Once we realized we were going to have to do the surgery, he stayed with me for over an hour in the prep area until my husband could get there before starting everything. When's the last time you heard of a doc doing that?? Anyway, his name is Dr. Louis Stern and he has his main office down on Underwood Street right by Arnold Palmer Hospital downtown (which is where he'll send you - again, a great hospital). He is also at an Oviedo office one day a week if that works better for you. His office number is ###-###-####. Good luck!

I had both my pregnancies followed by Michael Stroup. He is a wonderfull human being. I did not really get a choice at peeking him: When I fund out I was pregnant the first time I didn't have health insurance, after I went to several OBgyn in the Winter Park area with money in my hand and that they all with no exception turned me down,I fund M. Stroup who took me in, treated me no different than any other client.I'm blessed to have such a decent person in my life and honored that he was present for the first day of both my kids. One was born in May, the other one on Sept 11. He has always been available, day and night. I delivered twice at Arnold Palmer(last time 4 years ago) 2 C-sections, I loved the place, the nurses and other workers. great experiences.
Good luck

Dr. Sweet in Altamonte is supposed to be great. I would avoid Winnie Palmer if you want your baby to stay with you after the birth. I've been told that they take your baby to the nursery for observation right after the c-section and you may not get him or her back for an hour to several hours--depending on how busy they are. This inhibits those early moments of bonding that I feel are so important. They are a baby factory--40 births a day. Florida Altamonte keeps mom and baby together the entire time. They only do 3 births a day so you can have your birth the way you want it. Plus, they are either "Baby Friendly certified" or almost certified, which means they are certified by the WHO as a hospital that supports breastfeeding and mother and baby bonding. I switched providers because I heard so many horror stories about Winnie and so many great things about Florida Altamonte. Unfortunately, my OB is getting out of the baby delivering business. Good luck!

P.S. Don't know why you need another c-section but if it's because you've had a prior c-section you don't have to go that route. Lots of women successfully VBAC.

I haven't had my baby yet, but I can still highly recommend my doctor. Dr. Bartfield is with OB & GYN SPECIALISTS. They have offices in Winter Park & Oviedo, I have seen him at both locations. I recently found out that I have 3 friends who had him as well. Two of them had C-Sections, and had great experiences with him. They only deliver at Winnie Palmer though, if that's a factor. Hope I helped!
