In Oct of 09 i had a miscarriage at 8 weeks. Now in dec of 09 i am five weeks pregnant. I called my ob and they scheduled an appointment for the 21st of dec. I told them i am not sure i am really the 5 weeks that they are telling me that i am because i didnt have my first positive pregnancy test until dec 9th. So with my appointment being so soon i would only be about 6w 5 days or so. Would there be a heartbeat? what can i expect?

There could be a heartbeat. I had an ultrasound at 5 weeks 6 days and there was a strong heartbeat. The fertility doctor told me that was about the earliest they see heartbeats. I had suffered two previous miscarriages and years of secondary infertility, so I could hardly believe what I was seeing on the monitor. I hope it all works so well for you. Congratulations!
Yup - that is exactly what happened to me. I am 34 weeks right now. Last spring I miscarried, then I got pregnant what felt like immediately after. I actually feel like I've been pregnant for 12 months because of the miscarriage!:)
Congrats! I waited to see the doc this time too. I waited til about 9 weeks to make sure it stuck. So it is good you are seeing them later in Jan.
Take those vitmins and get plenty of rest! Best wishes.
I've had ultrasounds as early as 7 weeks and we could see a little "sack" that the baby is growing in and a tiny flutter that is the heartbeat - they will measure the sack to determine how far along you really are. It will be too early to hear the heartbeat - but at 9 weeks you can. Good luck!
Congrats, Trish! I also miscarried before having my daughter. At 6 weeks, it's most likely too early to hear a heartbeat. I might even be too early to see the heart fluttering on the ultrasound. With the daughter, I went in at about 7 or 8 weeks, and we could see the heartbeat then.
Best wishes!

Be prepared for cautionary news from the doctor. We were secondary infertility with our daughter, so I knew the exact date she was conceived. I went in as soon as I could get an appointment after I had a positive pregnancy test, so I should have been about 5-6 weeks. They did NOT see anything, but my pregnancy test was positive. They cautioned me that it could be ectopic - sent me home and said to come back in a month, or sooner if I had severe cramping or bleeding.
Talk about a crazy woman! I was close to hysterical. Then a friend offered a piece of advice that isn't cheap, but it can calm your nerves and help you determine that the baby is growing where it should, rather in the fallopian tube. Buy a bunch of the cheap home pregnancy tests - all the same. And get a good stopwatch style timing system. Use them daily or every other and record exactly how long it takes to turn positive. If things are good, it'll happen faster and faster since the HCG doubles daily. I did it for a week and it settled my nerves enough to stop until my next appointment.
Hello Trish, Yes mydear you can be pregnant and safely this time.
The doctor or a nurse can do a special vaginal scan that will tell you about the baby. I am marveled at the medical world today and the things that could be done today that were not done even 3 years ago.
So don't worry and relax and hope for the doctor to tell you that all is well. Best Wishes for you marriage and your life. Nana Glenda
congratulations! i had a miscarriage at 8 weeks and then never had a period and was waiting and waiting, thinking my cycle was off and found out we were 12 weeks pregnant! at 6 weeks you may be able to hear the heartbeat but i think they wait until 7 or 8 weeks to hear to be sure. i'm very excited for you. have a great pregnancy!
Trish,
In 1991 early in the year I was told I was not pregnant. 8 weeks later I was told that I was pregnant, and that I was 6 weeks along. I was due January 6-12 or so. At six months I started preterm labor. After two months on bed rest only, I was hospitalized for 3 1/2 weeks on an IV and told that I would be allowed to go home at 36 weeks. We were also told that the baby would weigh possibly 5 lbs. When she came 24 hours after the IV was removed she weighed
7 pounds 9 ounces. I have always wondered if they were wrong on my blood tests the first time with the "miscarriage". All I do know is that she did not need specialty care and we got to go home the next day. For that we were very greatful. That and she had her daddys red hair.

Congratulations, I'm so happy for you! I don't have a regular cycle, and I found out I was pregnant at the 6 week mark for both of my pregnancies. With my first, I was unknowingly almost 4 weeks pregnant when I first met with my OB, and both pregnancy and blood test came out negative. I ended up going in for a full ultrasound for other reasons, and that's when I found out I was 6 weeks pregnant. With my second, I was 6 weeks and 4 days when I first checked in with my OB, and she confirmed it with a simple ultrasound and I was able to hear the baby's heartbeat. You won't see much in the picture (baby looks like a peanut), but she was able to measure the baby's length to find the approximate due date - and she's been right on target (give or take 2-3 days) each time I've had an ultrasound. Good luck with this pregnancy!
