Hi Mamas.

I am 33 weeks pregnant and since about 16 weeks, I started to get varicose veins on my upper inner thighs. It started mild with a burning sensation and some bruising. I did go to the doctor and got a prescription for compression pantyhose. I've been using them and while they help, they aren't giving me the support I need in my upper thigh area. In the last two weeks, I've had heaviness feeling and the veins have gotten worse-they've spread to my vulva (embarrassing to say). Anyway, I talked to my doctor this week about this and she suggested I purchase one of those braces that are suppose to provide support in the vulva area like the Fembrace V-Brace. It cost about $70-80. I'm wondering if anyone else has used it and if it's worth the purchase. Also any one who experienced these veins, wondering if everything went back to "normal". Thanks!

What can I do next?

While I have vv myself, as a midwife, I've learned a few things since that I wish I knew when I was pregnant! I used compression panyhose (Yuck, esp in the summer!) Witch Hazel compresses, Vit E (d-alpha, not dl-alpha) and elevating the foot of my bed so my feet were higher than my heart all helped somewhat. Never had the resources for the brace you are refering to, so don't have any feedback on that aspect, sorry.
Since then, I have learned that Noni juice, and several herbal remedies also help a lot a lot more to aliviate the pain & severity.
vv are always worse during pregnancy, because that's when your blood volume expands. While the vv don't get "cured" w/o surgery, when the blood volume returns to normal, the pain disappears... until next pregnancy that is. :)

I bought the brace and it was worth every penny. I couldn't stand for longer than 15 minutes without it. But I hated it and those tights so much by the end I wanted to burn them in the fireplace. I'm happy to say the veins went away 100% in the vulva but not on the thigh. My legs look 1000% better but I still needed to buy a bathing suit that has shorts for the bottom. Oh well. Best wishes to you!

hi there- yup, was one of the lucky ones to get vulvar varicsities with both my kiddos. They have gone away (my youngest is 6months). I did use the V2 Supporter, and got it from the makers website (I think). Check out Amazon, or call your OB's office, they might know where to get one (my OB was the one who told me about the brace, and gave me the website to buy it). If you can spare the money (Holidays- ugh :) ) I would get it! I am a runner, and it totally allowed me to even run! But i will warn you, I felt like I was wearing a jock strap of some sorts...and my husband thought it was even funnier (which it was pretty funny!).
Good Luck!!!!!!

UGH!! I just had this same problem with my last pregnancy! It sucked! They started in my right ankle and eventually made their way up the leg and vulva! Ouch! I didn't use a brace or anything. Occasionally I would wear the pantyhose. I just tried to keep my legs up at night or when I sat. (it also hurt to sit on certain chairs. They had to be pretty cushiony) They really hurt though. BUT, I am happy to report that they literally starting going away as soon as I gave birth. The leg isn't as perfect as it was when I was 20, but it is WAY better than it was while prego. The vulva also went back completely normal right after.
Good luck!

Hi!
I had the SAME problems with my daughter(baby#2). I did not buy the brace. I just dealt with the weird situation! I was worried about it going back to normal--but it did right after I had my daughter! Good Luck!

I had a similar problem but did not want to spend the money for the v-brace. My son is 5 months and no, things did not go back to normal completely, at least not yet (I do not think veins will ever receed by themselves). Thankfully, I have no pain or discomfort like I experienced when I was pregnant. I wish I spent the money for the product. Good luck!
