Pregnancy Question & Work Advice

Hello moms! I'm 9-10 weeks pregnant and last night and still this morning I noticed discolored dark or reddish discharge when I wipe myself after peeing. I'm very worried because miscarriage is still a posibility, but I feel stupid going to the emergency room for discharge. Has a similar thing happened to anyone? You think I should call my Dr.?

The other thing I'm weighing in my brain: I'm due Aug. 16 I was first thinking of just quitting my job I have now 13.50 per hour. And becoming a nanny for a family so I could be with my new baby and also pick up my son from school who will be in kindergarten. My boss recently told me I could collect unemployment for six months, but then I'd go back to work. I'm really not sure what to do. Going back would insure I'd have money, but I wouldn't be with my kids. I know every mom goes through this same thing. With my first son I didn't work until he was two. I loved being with him. My heart tells me not to go back to work. But the money. I know being a nanny, I won't make 400 a week. Which I can understand I don't want to bankrupt the family I work for. Advice? Past experiences? Thank you ladies!

So What Happened?

Well good news ladies! Went to my Dr. yesterday; babies heartbeat sounds perfect, from her exam she said all looks well. But I am going for a ultrasound Monday 29th. Just to be safe. Thank you all so much.

First, I would definitely call the doctor. My sister had some bleeding and did end up having a miscarriage. It's always better to play it safe.

As far as quitting your job, I believe you need to do what you feel is the best for your family. If you do go back to work you need to also factor in the expense of daycare of babysitting. Most nannies I know of make a minimum of $10.00 per hour. I am not sure about benefits. Hope that helps!

The bleeding thing happened to me. I was a little less further along, and I was spotting. Went to the Dr. who did a hormone check. Turned out that I had a low progesterone level. If I hadn't gone to the Dr, I would have probably miscarried- in other words, GO TO THE DR!!!! Better safe than sorry.

I'm just responding to the first part -- never jeapordize your well-being when you are pregnant. It could be nothing - the bleeding- but it could be something. Give ur doc a call and tell her the sx you are feeling. That is their job to answer your questions or fears. You should never feel like you are 'bothering' the doc. I am a practicing clinician and, like most clinicians, appreciate when patients call regarding their concerns. If she gets an attitude answering your phone calls then you should not be seeing such a doc. Give her a call.

I don't know what to tell you about the first issue, but with respect to Nanny pay, we pay our nanny $400 a week. So it's not out of the question! Good luck!

I had red discharge about 11 weeks and it ended up being a leak in the placenta..So I would go. You won't look stupid for doing it.

Be certain that you can get unemployment BEFORE you leave your current job. I think that if you quit, you can't get unemployment - you have to be let go. I'm pretty sure that it's the state that sets the rules on unemployment benefits, not your former employer. Research this yourself, don't just rely on what your boss says. If your boss happens to be wrong then you could be out 6 months of unemployment pay.

If you can be a nanny and have your kids with you, that sounds like a great arrangement!! You may make a bit less, but you would be with your kids and not have to pay for child care.
