Pregnancy and Hair Coloring

My husband and I are trying for our third baby. I recently started having my hair colored and have another appointment tomorrow to touch up the greys. I've heard that many women stop coloring their hair when they are pregnant or trying to conceive. I'm not wondering if I should cancel my appointment, but would like to hear from others out there and get your thoughts. Thank you!

What can I do next?

I've dyed my hair three times during this pregnancy and all's well. I only dye the front to cover the grays (in my family, the grays show up in front first). The first time was before knowing I was even pregnant, the second was in my third month and the last one was a few weeks ago; I'm 7 months now.

Hope this helps.

Hi S., Annette's right. As long as you're getting highlights or something that doesn't touch the scalp, you'll be fine. I also colored my hair when I was pregnant and never had any problems. And my doctor has also told me it was ok.

I always colored my hair durning my pregnancy. I'm a hairstylist and almost everyone I know colors their hair durning pregnancy and everything is fine. But there is a few that will stay away as well. The color does not penetrate into the scalp so it is safe-A. ;-)

I continued to get my hair highlighted using foils- the dye doesn't actually touch your scalp then - I altered the color slightly so I only had it done a couple times.

A slight change but then you can still cover the grays!

My sister is a hair sylist and she refused to color my hair, so I grew out my color until I was done breastfeeding after a year. But because the organs are so vunerable during the first 12-16wks, it is best to stay away from coloring. The darker the more toxic carcinogens that can reach the fetus and their undeveloped organs. My midwife said if I could hold-off, the longer the better. I figured, I have the rest of my life to color/highlight my hair, so I'll wait. I want a healthy kid who is not as exposed to the toxins. Hope that helps with your decision. Good luck!

Most doctors will say to not have anything done during the first 12 weeks/1st trimester. I had my hair dyed a couple of times this pregnancy.

I get highlights done. My guy says it's ok if you don't soak your scalp in dye. Highlights don't even touch your scalp. Don't know if it is 100% true, but works for me.
