Pregnancy After C-section - Pains

Hi Mommies. I am 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child. I am experiencing searing pain across my lower abdomen approx. 3x/week. The pain is below the skin and drops me to the floor. My 20 month old daughter was born via c-section and it really feels like the scar on my uterous is going to tear open. When I spoke to the doctor about it she explained that scar tissues doesn't stretch as willingly as regular tissue which does make sense. What does not make sense to me is why it isn't a dull ongiong pain but instead a sharp stabbing that lasts a few minutes here and there. Has anybody had this in a pregnancy following a c-section? I'm thinking that logically it's only going to get worse as more stretching is required but I don't think I can handle worse pain. If anybody HAS had pain similar to this were there any "home remedies" that you found would ease the pain? Perhaps a particular stretch or something. I'm getting ready to go back to teach in 2 weeks and don't want to end up on the floor in pain infront of a class of 8th graders. I don't know anybody whose been pregnant following a c-section so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

I would agree with having a second opinion. Have you tried a hot bath for now? (i know that you're not supposed to have it too hot...) I had terrible pain in my pregnancies but it was more bone pain "down there". I wish you luck and congratulations :)

I have had two c-sections and didn't have anything like you described. I don't like the answer your doctor gave you. I would definitely get a second or even a third opinion on this one. I have never heard of this kind of pain after a c-section. Good Luck!

I get pain in my incision area, but not as intense as you describe. Although I will say it comes and goes, not a dull ache. It is a sharp stabbing kind of sensation, but wouldn't bring me to my knees. I'm about 28 weeks right now with number 3 (two previous c - sections) and I will say I don't experience the pain as much. I do wear a belt or girdle though - I think it helps - less pulling - more support. Keep after your doctor about it though. Really let her know it is a real concern to you, especially that intense.

I've had four children, the last 3 were C-sections. I did have some discomfort and pains around my incision area, but nothing at all like you are describing. My Dr told me to wear that belly band also, to help with support. Honestly, it sounds like you are having severe pain when this does occur and how are you supposed to work thru that? you might be able to rest easier if you seek out a second opinion....I agree with the other moms who answered. If the pain drops you to the floor and you are only in your 20th week? Your belly is going to get much larger, as you already know. Get another opinion to be on the safe side! Good luck!!

I had a c-section the first time and second. I can tell you I had the same problems with my second pregnancy. Sometimes I would just turn and it would burn and just plain hurt. It would go away and then come back. My doctor told me the same thing, but she also suggested that I use one of those belly bands that would help support the bottom of my stomach and keep some pressure off of the scar tissue. I hope this helps you. You can find the belly bands at Target for a decent price and selection.

Sounds like Round Ligament pain to me, which can be quite intense. Have you ruled that out? You can have it with some pregnancies and not others.

I agree, though, if you don't think your doctor is taking it seriously, get a second opinion.

hi there i had a cesection with both of my boys and they are 2 years and 1 week apart.yes i had some pulling and stretching but nothing as painful as you described.have you had an ultrasound yet?i would say maybe you have adhesions around your scar..its basically these lumps that you get if you do to much to soon.maybe thats why your having pain..pursue the issue with your dr you know your body better then anyone and if you feel something isnt right then you should have it checked out!

It's probably because just like children they grow in spurts and so does your baby. They really don't grow in nice slow continuous growth. So that's why you are probably having the spasms it's similar to when a child complains of growth pains.

I'm 28 weeks pregnant with my second, first was a c-section. Thankfully, I haven't experienced ANYTHING like you described. Normally, I believe in trusting your doctor... but I'm not sure about her answer. Is there another doctor at your practice you could ask? Maybe you could ask if there's anything else it could be? It will be interesting to see what others have to say on the message board.

Good luck with everything and going back to school.
