Ok so my son has a camel bladder and we cloth diaper with prefolds and cover but at night he pee's a gallon a night it feels like. Each night I use a cloth-eez prefold with two thirsties doubler and he still wets through!!!!! Or any other system that absorbs A LOT!!!
**I'm using Bummies and I hate them. I used to have the thirsties Duo, but my son didn't fit well in them after about 3 months in them. I'm just ordered some Envibums. can't wait to try them! I have been interested in wool, but not sure which ones to try. And I have limited money so I can't keep experimenting. Oh and my son is huge. 28lbs at 8 months. Not an easy kid to diaper or clothe.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Gals! I've now started using the Gerber prefolds with my cloth-eez so he doesn't soak through as much, I'm also getting different covers because I just don't like the Bummis ones. And with the EC, I looked into that, but I'm just not consistent enough to try. I'm lucky we have a bedtime routine.

I'm not sure what Cloth-Eez prefolds are made of, but I would highly suggest using hemp or bamboo at night. We have some hemp prefolds at the store that are totally awesome.

You might want to consider a wool cover for over night too. You can make them yourself out of old sweaters, if you are handy. The Aristocrats wool soaker is also extremely popular for overnights. If you don't want wool, I would go with a one-size cover like the Sweet Pea. That way you can adjust it based on how much you need to stuff it.

Another really good option for overnight are the DryBees Fleece Pockets. I always stuffed mine with a Super-Do insert. They worked great.

Just keep in mind that hemp is about 40% more absorbent than similar weight cotton and bamboo 60% more absorbent than similar weight cotton, and cotton, hemp, and bamboo are all more absorbent than microfiber (the least absorbent diapering material). So even though these fabrics are more expensive, they are totally worth it for a heavywetter.

HTH! Feel free to call the store (The Giggling Green Bean) at ###-###-####, if you need more help:).

My 6-month daughter is significantly smaller than your son, but she had the peeing issue as well. One night I figured out why that was happening: she didn't pee when she was asleep, but right after she was waking up in the morning (you know - the time when I'm still asleep and wishing she would stay there, too), she would pee two or three times, each one enough to soak through the diapers. I've started doing some "elimination communication" (or "EC"), and now when she wakes up in the morning, I really quickly get her to the toilet and she pees there. She hasn't soaked through since I started doing that.

Check out the EC stuff - it isn't stressful potty training, it is basically just getting the kid on a potty at times when you know he needs to go (like just after a nap, or eating, or whatever it is for your kid), and every time you make it, you have one less diaper to wash.

Are you using the Hemp Thirsties Doublers? Those are better than cotton. And even better than Hemp is a microfiber doubler, although I've been told they should not go against the skin because they'll dry out the skin, but you could put it against the prefold with a hemp doubler on the other side. Good luck.

What types of covers are you using? I use a heavy duty wool and although I still change my son b/c he's wet, he wouldn't soak through and he's in a prefold.

My first son was such a soaker at night that he wore a pocket diaper with three inserts and a PUL cover and wool longies on top of that! He looked ridiculous but didn't leak.

Have you thought of using wool longies as pajama bottoms? That's what I do and they help absorb any wetness that gets out of the diaper.

Good luck....it seemed to come and go for us depending on the age, although last night I woke up with pee soaked sheets (we cosleep) and my pajamas and top soaked as well. His prefold had been sticking up a bit over the cover and the sheets and my clothes just soaked it right up! :)

Good luck!
