Prefold Cloth Diaper Tips Please

We are using cloth diapers this time around from a diaper service. They are standard prefolds (held together with a snappi) with Thirsties brand covers. We have 7 covers, which we launder as needed, and the service does the rest. I've watched a few youtube clips on cloth diapering and we're doing great, no leaks! However, I'm wondering if you all have some tips for better folds or something to keep poop in the diaper instead of leaking into the cover? The covers do a great job of holding it in so it's not leaking out onto clothes, but then we run out of our covers quickly and need to do the laundry more often.

What can I do next?

We used the newspaper fold with both my girls. Take the diaper, lay it flat, fold both sides in over the middle panel. Before you lay the baby down on it, open the back up. Pull the center up through the legs, pull the wings around and fasten with a Snappi.

This link shows a few different folds, just scroll down to the bottom.

You should also be able to find something on You Tube. Just look "How to fold a prefold diaper." There are a lot of different folds out there and it seems everyone has a different name for them!

if its alot of poop its going to spread no matter how you fold. I too am using cloth diapers. if my dd has terd we are good but if she has a softer bm well it is what it is I only have 6 covers in my rotation and have yet ran out for the day. maybe figure out what your lo eats that gives him/her the looser bm and maybe back off for a few days and see if that help firm things up and help with the mess.

Have you considered inserts? I use hemp inserts with my prefolds and they absorb really well.

i don't remember the "technical" names but we used one of two methods, one was the typical "angel" fold where you fold the sides in then spread out the corners in "wings" bring up and snappi, when doing this one i would make sure that the sides didn't overlap the middle and then the leg edges i would kinda tuck in to form almost like a pocket. the other method that worked well for containing the poop was i think the "jelly roll" method, basically, just roll the sides in instead of folding them in http://www.diaperco.com/store/pg/82-Folding-Instructions....
