My son was a 32 weeker, and fortunately he had very few problems. I know many people though who had much younger preemies with complications, were told there was nothing to do but wait and see, and now their children are happy, healthy toddlers or older. Mine was only hospitalized for two weeks, he was a feeder/grower.

Hi T. how are you? Do you have a preemie? I have a long story for you. I have been through it all. I am 26 yrs old and have a 3 yr old son Ryan and a 18 month old Matthew. My son matthew is a surviving twin. I lost his brother in utero and had an emergency c-section at 24 weeks. My little matthew was only 1 lb and 13 inches long. It was very scarey to look him like this hooked up to all sorts of wires and breathing machines. He had to have laser eye surgery because he had ROP thats were his retinas start detaching. He finally came home after 3 long months in the hospital. Matther still came home on oxygen and a pulse oximeter. We had him home for a week and had to take him back to the hospital because he kept stopped breathing so he was readmitted for another 2 weeks. we had him back again for another month and had breathing difficulties along the way and hospitalized him one more time before he was home for good. After a few months matthew started to recieve physical therapy for tight and poor muscle tone. he still gets it to this day. but now you would never know he was sick or premature. He weighs 27 lbs and is running around calling mommy and daddy every second of the day. I went through a very rough time, and people say i am strong for what i endured. my answer to that is you do it because you have to, i had to be strong for my older boy who was wondering what was going on with his baby brother and i had to be strong for matthew and pray that every thing would be ok.

So email me if i can be any support to you. Good luck.

Hi T., My daughter was 13 weeks early and was in the hospital for 10 weeks. We are very fortunate that she is now a perfectly healthy 2 and 1/2 year old. I know there were some babies in the NICU that were hospitalized much longer and were very sick. I want to recommend to you the March of Dimes website. There is a section called Share your Story and it is an open forum. I think you can find people to talk to there that can answer your questions for you. Best of luck, Jen L.

2 of my 3 babies were preemies. My daughter was born at 31 weeks she was 4.5lbs & my son was only 1 mopnth preenie. My son had visual issues-he had a cataract & needed surgery at 4 months old & he recently had his second surgery for a lens implant & is doing well. My daughter though had quite a few issues. She was in NICU for a month & we were told she had a 4-5mm lesion in her brain as well as a slight brain bleed. I was told that she would have trouble reaching her milestones & basically she would be slow. Well......my daughter is now 2 1/2 & is ahead of her age. She is on a 4 year odl level of communication skills, there is no sign of any lesion or brain bleed. She is thriving & doing exceptionally well. They tried to prepare us for the absolute worst with her but they couldn't have been more wrong. I wish you the best of luck-I learned to just take life 1 day at a time & hopefully all works out for the best.

Hi T., Do I know tons about having preemies.... Well I will start with 2002, I had my twin girls @ 26 1/2 months.. Just after 11 days One passed sighs...one survived she is now 4 yrs.... and is constantly catching a cold and fevers... I take her back and forth to doctor every time she has to go... she also has Speech therapist, now will also have a Occupational therapist.. and you know why, because I kept buggin Dr., the Teachers as she has been in school since 1 1/2 yrs old... Dont let the doctors tell you there is nothing they cant do.... what are they gonna wait till its too late? have your child evaluated, it dont matter that the baby is 9 months old..... ok here is my other part of my life, in 2005, I had Twins again ironic @ 26 1/2 months again.... this time a boy/Girl ok these two thank god were there a month and other @ 1 1/2 month...... @ 5 months they ended up back in the hospital for a bacteria infection in their tummy's can you imagine my stress..... while in the hospital , they both encountered respirtatory issues.... my babies spent xmas and new years till the 10 of January, 3 whole weeks in 2 different hospitals.. they had to be transported to Hackensack Hospitals to seek specialist.... T. I was asked if I was feeding my twins babies Pork @ their age......... Hello they are babies merely having Neosure and Cereal where did the Pork come from? anyways..... thank god they havent been hospitalized after that.... but I will tell you this they have their Dr @ the hospital they were born @ that I can bring for vision, hearing, developmental check ups..... they also have their Dr Clinic nearby my home that I trust with my babies....they were both evaluated @ 3 months, I thought it was silly at first but hey you know I found out Adrian would need pt and might need speed in a year or two... You can Tell your Doctor that you want your child evaluated.... they ask you for what, U tell em for everything and anything they need to check your child for....devoplmental, Ot, Pt , Now I dont know exactly what your child is going through but hun when another Dr sees your child they can recommend you to run test...... I think if your not happy with the Dr you have now..... Change Drs. hopefully you will get better results....... the other thing is I have learned that toxics in your cleaning and laundry for instance can play a part in your health... So I searched until I found a Health and Wellness company where I get all the products that have Natural ingredients..... this has taken away from getting as sick..... I am sorry if this was too long....I know how stressful this can be for you..... I hope you can get all the help you need.... God bless ya and I will be here if there anything else I could help ya with

Hello. I am a mom of a 28 wkr. She is now 2 1/2 yrs. old and doing great. We had some issues like her PDA wasn't closed, sleep apea, and a heart murmur. All of which are fine now. SHe does have delays. For instance, she isn't walking on her own just yet but we are really close. SHe gets Early Intervention therapy. THey will come along on their own time I wouldn't worry about anything although i do how agonizing it can be. IT has been a long 2 1/2 yrs. but i she is perfect to me and they are such fighters. You will be amazed how strong and determined they are.
