T.S.
Is there a real need for vitamins? My kids never liked them so I just didn't bother. Even when they were going through ultra picky stages they always managed to grow and stay healthy.
Mamas & Papas-
As I work my way through a bottle of gummy vites that my kid rejected (adult dosage is 4 gummies a day), any recommendations on other options? Ideally, we'd get something which is tasteless and can be disolved into food/ beverage.
Thanks,
F. B.

Unless recommended by a doctor, they have proved vitamins do more harm than good. You get most of what you need in your food and overdosing on some vitamins can cause a lot of damage.
Talk to the Doc, if he doesn't need it don't waste your money.
My kids don't like gummy vitamins but they love the Flintstones vitamins.
My kids like the Flintstone chewable vitamins. They aren't gummy, so they're worth a shot.
I agree with those who say that unless it's specifically recommended by the ped for a tested and documented deficiency, vitamins are unnecessary.
If you are interested in this topic, google "The vitamin myth". It is fascinating how society just assumed that vitamins must be good for us, based on no evidence at all.
Try the Animal Parade vitamins. We use the original every day and one of the immune boosters beginning right before school starts until the end of flu season. I'm not sure if they have a tasteless option? Flintstones has aspartame.
There's a lot out there now saying that vitamins are not necessary if we're eating the proper foods.
Some are even saying vitamins are not all they're cracked up to be.
We give our daughter a multi maybe once or twice a month. She eats a lot of good foods that are packed with the nutrition the way we were meant to eat.
Don't get me wrong, we get our share of "junk" but vitamins are not where we go when we want to fill up on "good stuff"
Do they really need vitamins?
If not, then there is no need to buy it.
My kids don't take vitamins. Don't need to.
And per the Pediatrician.
Also, you can get, samples of vitamins to try first, before buying it.
I see many sample free packs especially at my local "natural" food type stores or Whole Foods.
Just ask them for samples, and they will give it to you. To try first at home. Then if your kids don't like it, then you don't waste money buying it.
Also, there are liquid, vitamins, for kids.
ie: "Animal Parade" brand makes some.
Also, those "gummy" type kid vitamins, causes cavities. Because, it is sticky and gummy and gets in between the teeth. This is per my kids' Dentist.
Alternatives are powder vitamins.. comes in packs like Crystal light portable flavorings... can put in many things or just melt in mouth.
Yes, I would do vitamins.
My kids were all low on iron, with vitamins here and there. Now we DO NOT MISS a daily dose. The iron is good again.
But gummy does not have vitamins. Try Flintstones.
And you need extra D for the child, too. (and for you).
It is very important! To say vitamins are not needed is wrong. A preschooler NEEDS enough iron and extra vitamin D. That's not going to be had by diet alone, in most cases. Especially not if you live in New York where it's not sunny in the winter.
People who specifically tested their kids' blood for iron AND vitamin D (and checked out fine) can relax. Everyone else cannot. It's just not worth it. We are talking a child's brain and developing body. And everyone knows preschoolers are picky! :)
So, it's not that one needs a multi, but those can have the full iron needed. Easy. And a separate D. Easy.
Have you tried Juice Plus+ chewables? Most kids love them and they keep children very healthy as they consist of 17 raw vine ripened fruits and vegetables. It's much better to get your vitamins from real food, not a synthetic vitamin. I've been distributing Juice Plus+ for 5 years now and can not believe the health benefits I have seen in my clients and my own family. Should you like to learn more, please check out my website (lswift.juiceplus.com). Also check out the Children's Health Study tab where you can read about how kids can go free for 4 years and read about the results of over 150,000 children who are taking Juice Plus+. Currently there are over 800,000 children participating. My phone number is ###-###-#### should you like me to send you a sample. I would be happy to!
In good health, L.
