I'm hoping someone can help me! My son will be 5 in the fall but is not going to be ready for kindergarten. We want him to go to some kind of begindergarten program or young 5's, something like that. He's done 3 and 4 yr old preschool already at a Christian preschool. Our district offers NOTHING! The next closest district doesn't accept non-residents. Does anyone know of any programs? I don't want him to repeat the same curriculum and don't want him to regress by staying home next year. I don't mind paying reasonable tuition, but I'm getting no help from local resources.

Prevail Academy in Mt. Clemens will be offering a Young 5's program. Prevail is a charter school that focuses on not only the education of children but focuses on moral values. I currently have two children there and one entering Kindergarten in the fall. I love it and have never seen such passionate teachers and staff!!
I also ran into this problem! One way to get around this is send your chlid to the half day kidergarten the first year and a full day kinergarten the next year! This is just an option that not many think of. I hope its helpful!
I am not sure if it is the same as the early 5's programs, but my kids go to a Kindercare for their daycare and preschool programs. They started a "private" kindergarten there this year. It is taught by Miss Betsey but is in the same building as the rest of the daycare/preschool. This one is in Farmington Hills on Middlebelt between 10 mile and 11 mile. ###-###-####. the Director is Megan. I am not sure if that is in your area, but there are other Kindercare centers that may offer similar programs. I know Learning Tree does as well.
I can not speak highly enough about a Christian Education. My children have been with Macomb Christian Schools from Ktg and I know have one child in 3rd grade and one in 7th grade. Macomb Christian Schools has a wonderful Begindergarten program I would highly recommend it. Which district do you live in?? Almost every district I know of has a young fives program. Is there a reason you don't think he is ready for K? I work at an elementary school, I deal with all the grades, and it seems to me most of the public schools have open enrollment as long as its withing your county.

Hey. We ran into the same problem with our son who turned 5 in the fall too and we sent him to christian school. We just put him in half day kinddergarten and next year he will be in full day kindergarten. That was my school's suggestion since I wanted to keep him in the christian school. National Heritage Academies have a Young Fives program, I heard. There are 2 in Macomb County.
