Power Rangers and Other Shows

So my son is turning 4 soon. He goes to Preschool and the kids talk about shows and toys they like. Up until now, he has been happy watching shows like Caillou, Team Oomizoomi, Curious George, and Thomas. He still likes those shows but has been asking to watch things like Sponge Bob (which I say no to) and Power Rangers. What are your thoughts on Power Rangers? It seems kind of intense and crazy loud when they fight. I have let him watch one episode and don't know how I feel about letting him watch it again. He also wanted to watch the Batman cartoon. It seems a little calmer...what do you think about that one?
What other shows (that are popular with young children) do you not allow?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Studies have found that fast moving shows like Sponge Bob effect concentration and impulse control. That is why I don't like them. I am conflicted because I want him to be included when kids play games that involve characters. At the playground over the summer a child a bit older than my son wanted to "play" superheroes and my son was totally confused.

Power Rangers for my 2 oldest would get them to act up so I ended that show. They would like to try the moves out on each other and that was not ok. I am OK with Sponge Bob even though that show annoys me and I would prefer if they watched something else. 90% of the shows on Cartoon Network I will not let my kids watch. Nick, Disney and PBS are all OK to watch.

I personally don't like Power Rangers - but - overall - it's directed at kids - since my kids are in Tae Kwon Do - they talk about the defensive moves made, etc.

I would let my kids watch Spongebob - he can be very annoying - however, like Power Rangers - believe it or not - kids CAN learn stuff from the shows. I have heard my kids say things like - that was wrong - that was rude...etc.

my kids both LOVE the power rangers. Even the original ones from back in the 90's. They don't fight anymore than they would anyway. My 4 year old son will pretend he is a power ranger and fight invisible people, lol! He knows not to fight his sister or anyone else.

I take everything show by show.

My youngest is almost four and LOVES Power Rangers. He is Autistic though...So this is more of a help to get him out of his shell. He gets really excited when it is on is more likely to get talkative with older brothers and it is pretty cool to watch when he likes the episode.

I HATE Cartoon Network. Yet it is the station that plays the older cartoons on Comcast out here....They love watching Looney Tunes and Flinstones....So sadly they end up seeing the nasty commercials for the later night shows they run...which tend to be disgusting.

Batman is another FAVORITE here.

Take them case by case. Most of the half hour shows are available On Demand or through most download services. You can take then one at a time on whether or not you think he should be watching them.

I would steer clear from most Cartoon Network programming...the mid morning and afternoons do not seem to be too bad...just do not leave the room while that channel is on because you never know when the grossness will start.

I would rather have my kids watch Spongebob other than Power Rangers. My kids are 9 (boy) and 4(girl).

The only shows they watch from the cartoon network is the new Garfield and Looney tunes. Other than that my daughter watches Disney or Nick.

My son doesnt watch what alot of the other kids watch and he manages. Beyblades are popular with the boys his age. Even though he doesnt watch the show he does have a few of the blades himself and plays with the boys at school. If you not comfortable with him watching it then dont let him watch.
Best bet would be avoid Cartoon Network!

My son (just turned 6) didn't watch tv at all until he was between 4 and 5 - and the only football and hockey (yeah, pretty violent). He does see DVDs of The Blue Planet occasionally and when he was 5 watched the original 3 Star Wars movies. He has never had any problems at school (he has been in daycare since he was 9 weeks, so lots of exposure to other media saturated kids) because he doesn't watch these shows. As far as I can see, the kids just make up their own games and just integrate the names of characters from the things they watch. When they play tag, it seems that batman is running around trying to tag Darth Vader and various princesses.

I don't let my kids watch anything that I don't want them to act out. Teach him to ask the kids what the rules are for their imaginary games. He is always going to run into that problem when playing with other kids. Give him a tool he can use in multiple situations instead of introducing him to every show that another kid might have watched.
