My two year old twins need to be poty trained sooo bad....they are old enough not to mention we have a new baby and diapers for three is outrageoous!! My problem....they know how to potty on the toilet and get very happy when they do it but the only time they make any effort to use the toilet is if they are naked. If i put underwear, pull ups, r diapers on them then the toilet is out of the question. We just moved into a new house with new carpet and the thought of them having an accident and peeing on the new carpet harrifies me.....Any suggestions on how to get them trained without ruining my carpet??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I actually put them in their underwear and set my kitchen timer for every thirty minutes and took them to the potty....THEY DID GREAT!!! by the end of the day they were telling me when they needed to go! THey only had one accident each through the day and they went through nap without an accident and one of my tiwis made it through the night without an accident...the other stayed dry till 530 this morning. I am soo proud of them. I know that was just the first day but as i said they know how to potty....i think the hold up could have been my lack of taking them every thirty min till they get the hang of it. *Heres to dry underwear today!!*

H., Since they :know how to potty on toilet" just leave them alone a few months & see then if they can be "big boys" & pull down their underwear to go potty & pull them back up. I bought 2 of the small inexpensive colorful potty chairs from Target for my twins. They dont take up much room & are stackable. using a potty would be easier for them to pull their undies down & back up, because its their height, no climbing or struggling to get on & off toilet..
But in all honesty, I;d wait until they are 3, It will go quicker & easier. & put rubber pants over underwear if you need to get out of some diaper expense. I used those thick Gerber training pants & rubber pants over them :)

Ok calm down and relax. Your pushing your children to fast. Potty training is not a simple 123 process as many claim it is. every child is different and childs pee/poop is not so toxic it will ruin a carpet. It hasnt done damage to mine in 3 years! Kids at 2 are not in biological control of their bowels till about he age of 4-5. if you go keep up on current information about children you will see things are really different these days. My suggestion is to do a reward system for them stickers or any other bribe treats. Potty training is a slow process it wont happen overnight and freaking out and terrorizing them about accidents will only set you back many more days. I did that too and my kid stopped going potty for awhile. Get a good carept cleaner and keep pluggin away at it, again pee/poop doesnt ruin carpet if you clean it up!

I also have two year old twins, and I am sad to say that there were MANY accidents on the carpet before we finished. My suggestion would be to use the money you will be saving on diapers and get a carpet cleaner. Even with older children, having accidents in one way that the kids learn to go when their body tells them.

Would they use the potty if you placed them on it? A suggestion that has always floated around is placing the child on the potty about every 2 hours &/or at certain times (eg. when they first wake up, before & after naps etc.). You could give them "rewards" such as stickers, every time they either successfully used the potty or , at least, tried to use it (we would count to 20 slowly--this also reinforced counting skills). And when it came to stickers, I used what was essentially a poster board with a tree drawn on it and they placed the stickers there. They could also use a notebook. Without some designated place for the stickers, my kids inevitably stuck them to the walls...ugh! Good luck! Diapers for 2 were/are bad enough, I know. We were doing the same, "you must get potty trained" dance when my 3rd was on the way. But the house we moved into had old carpets in it that we decided weren't going to be touched until the kids were old enough to not destroy it!

my son was hard to potty train too, i tried everything with him but he wouldnt go on the potty, he would go on the carpet too. i ended up keeping a potty chair where i could see it and made the effort of taking him in ever half hr to an hr almost like clock work, and every time i went in i took him with me. i wanted my son to learn sitting down but of course when he saw daddy standing up one time he decided it was a great idea too...lol. i had to teach him how to go standing up...that was a joy..lol my daughter on the other hand she would be good at every hr..but once i put diapers, pull-ups, or undies on her she would immediately wet them. i ended up getting a second hand carpet cleaner just to keep up with any accidents. i learned that girls are the hardest to train then boys. if your twins are boys then i would suggest keeping a clean coffee can near by for the pee bit. yes i said coffee can (works the best) if you are busy and can't get to the bathroom on the scheduled time that you want them to try to go then use the coffee can, and slowly transition to the potty as they go longer and longer without wetting. the b.m i would keep track on a calender for one week the time that they usually go. everyone has some what of a schedule their bodies follow every day. i would set an alarm clock once you have established roughly when they might have a b.m and set the alarm as to when you will try to take them to the potty. if you don't want to use the coffee can then i wouuld try cheerio's in the toilet or have them stand infront of the potty with their hands on the wall,(helps them aim). the cheerio's is to aim at in the toilet btw. girls i would try some of the same things, try to get a schedule down as to when you want her to try, the only problem is that it will take time. girls usually take about a couple of months before they really get the hang of the potty and trying to not have accidents. boys sometimes a month or more. print off calenders to put stickers on for each day they go accident free, (or mostly accident free, let them apply the stickers with help if need be). once they get say3-5 stickers in a two week period then have a day out, mcdonalds or some other place they love to go. just remember, try to have patients...i do know how you feel and had been there before, good luck!

My sister had twin girls and that is about the age we trained them. (I was the sitter LOL) they were so much fun. Is there a room that doesn't have carpet where you can put the potty chair and let them run around in for a few days to get them started? I always asked my own kids about every half an hour if they needed to go then I took them in there and waited and read them books etc. for a short time. The potty chair I had was like a high chair so they could color or whatever and they couldn't just get up and run around but I didn't make the trips hour long either. Good Luck and enjoy your twins they are just too much fun.

i wated until my twins turned 3 to potty train them because i didn't want to have months-long process. when they're 3, they're so ready, they get the concept. took me literary less than a week with no accidents on carpets at all. we had a few nighttime accidents but that is to be expected. if you are dead set on doing it now, then just wait for warm weather when kids do not have layers and layers of clothes. the whole potty thing is about them knowing when they have to go and have an easy enough time to get undressed to go potty. otherwise you'll be running to them and most likely be late and have an accident appear. also you have a new baby. you will be exhausted, for potty the stress level has to be below 0. are you at that point yet?

I had my third son when my twin boys were 16months. I did not even try to potty train at 2. When we were getting in the bath, changing pull ups or going out I would get them to go on the potty. They had a potty chair in the bathroom so they could go if they wanted but they were not really ready to train until age 3. Even then one twin got it right away, the other took a few months. With the new baby I would not even try. Potty training needs to be a stress free as possible and the more you push the less they will try. If money is the issue I used White Cloud pull-ups from walmart. They are really inexpensive and worked great.

I can't help you with the potty training but this stuff is awesome: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000CSBXM4/ref=dp_...
I've used it on all manner of fabrics for things like food stains, vomit, feces, blood and even cat urine and it hasn't let me down. I think no matter what you do there is going to be some pee or SOMETHING on your carpet so my one small piece of advice is to get a bottle (or two or three, really it goes far because you dilute it to use it but I like to have lots on hand).

Well, my daughter wanted to use the potty before she turned two, but my son was four before he was ready. It's not exactly outrageous. But anyway, because I did it when THEY were ready, we had virtually NO accidents.
