Potty Training Suggestions

My adorable son is 3 years and 2 months old and is doing a terrific job using the potty for going pee-pee - we didn't start potty training seriously until he was 3 and he is doing very well. Using the potty for bowel movements is another story - he's just not interested in doing a "#2" in his potty. I'm not panicking yet, but he starts pre-school in September and must be completely potty trained by then. Any advice you can offer on encouraging my son to "do everything" in the potty would be much appreciated!

So What Happened?

Good news! Success! Our son's very favorite thing to do is to go to the "movie store" and pick out an appropriate kid's show. So, we told him that if he starts doing "poopies" in the potty, we will take him to the movie store. Unfortunately, we told him this just before we left for a two-week camping trip - not a lot of movie stores around the campground. The first day of our trip was his first success! Luckily, we were camping with friends - our son went to their campsite and "borrowed" movies from them. He never actually watched the movies - it was all about "getting" the movies. So, on a 14-day trip, we only had to change 3 diapers, that's it. We've been home a week and have experienced a little relapse, but as soon as he wakes up, off with the Pull-up and on with his favorite underwear, and he's great all day long. No accidents in 4 days. Thanks to all who responded and good luck! I feel like a new woman and our son is very proud, too. Oh, and now that we're home, he's totally happy getting a new dollar-store car to play with - no more trips to the movie store.

Well with my boys I put fruit loops in (and let them aim) for potty... poopie was good then... my older daughter was the "hide somewhere and poop"... we took away the potty chair and told her the BIG ppl potty was used for potty and poop and she was fine after that... I think it was the potty chair and thinking that was only to pee in..... hope that helps

Hi A.! I can't offer any advice, just commiseration. My daughter is 3 years 4 months, and we're in the same boat. She's dry all day, does great going pee by herself even, but will absolutely NOT go poop on the potty. She demands a diaper and if we don't comply, she holds it. I've been afraid she's going to get impacted. I keep hearing that it's going to happen eventually, and I know that's true, but it's frustrating! We've got until Sept, too for preschool and I'm sure it'll be over by then, but it's difficult!

My daughter was potty trained until the baby came 6 weeks ago. We told her the potty likes to 'eat' poop and pee and put her on the toilet and hers every chance we could. We are more occupied now with the baby and she's not so interested in going in there.

Hope that helps.

I am in the same boat with my son. He stands to peepee and refuses to sit down on the potty.. big or little! He asks for a diaper and if we don't put one on, he just goes in his underwear! Let me know how it goes!
