Potty Training Girls

My daughter will be two years old this month. I was planning on waiting until the summer to start potty training because she is still young and wearing less clothes in the summer would be easier. However I thought maybe I would try it soon being that Alyssa has started telling me when she poops in her diaper.

I was reading a How-To on potty training and it suggested using cloth diapers during the day so that she would feel uncomfortable being wet or soiled. Is this what I should buy or are pull-up diapers ok to use? I never heard anyone use cloth diapers. Thank you.

What can I do next?

Potty training diapers are a complete waste of money, imo. They send the wrong message to the brain...mommy says it's different, but it doesn't FEEL any different. Not worth the ridiculous high price/low quantity switch from regular diapers.
You could use cloth diapers or you could use the thick potty training underwear (what we used).
You can put the plastic pants over them if you are so inclined-though they are pretty absorbent.
HTH!

Just transition to big girl undies - no pull ups. I believe that they can be confusing. When a child wets herself in regular panties, she can feel it - vs. the panties - can't. I'd just make a big deal out of the new big girl undies, and make sure you stay close to home/in the house and "remind her" or ask if she needs to go often. Reward her w/ positive reinforcement when she goes on the potty, and reassure her it's okay when she makes a mistake. Don't punish... At night - we did use a diaper.

with both my girls we went straight to panties. They went to the store to pick out their own - made a big deal about it and in about 3 days they had it figured out. There was still an occasional accident but for the most part they "got it" quickly when they felt themselves wet.
They are 6 and 4 now and we're still working on staying dry at night. They both wear pull-ups at night. (it runs in our family for late nighttime training).

I used cloth diapers with my second kid and she potty trained at 22 months. She was already dry at night.

I think you can use Pull-Ups if you want to, but make sure you use them as such and not as an alternate diaper. I think we made that mistake when potty-training my son, because once he decided it was ok to go potty in them we couldn't change his mind.

We went straight to underwear with both my son and daughter and they got it in 3 days or less... we did use pull-ups at night for a while though.

Before you set up a situation that risks frustrating or discouraging either you or your daughter, be sure she's actually ready to train. Here's one of several sites that gives some great "readiness" checklists. http://www.parentingscience.com/toilet-training-readiness...

Then read on – this site offers an amazing amount of information on various training methods and their pros and cons. Worthwhile reading at this time in your life!

Wearing "big girl panties" under her pull-up was helpful to my daughter while she was potty training; she felt wet and uncomfortable without making a huge mess. (Always a plus!) Good luck!

Don't do pull ups. They feel just like a diaper and are expensive. I went straight to panties for my daughter and she had it figured out in about 4 days. Plan on staying home for a few days while training and she should get it. She will have accidents but don't make a big deal of it, just encourage her to go in the potty. I took my daughter every 15-20 minutes and it worked. She got a sticker for her chart we made on the fridge every time she went potty. With my son I tried the 3 day method and it says ask them if their underwear is dry all the time. This allows them to learn to recognize their bodies cues of needing to go potty. Starting now or later is up to you. With my daughter, I tried at 2 1/2 and it worked, but I probably could have done it earlier but I had a baby a few weeks after she was 2 so I waited. Good luck
