K.P.
He needs to acquire other skills before he is ready to be potty trained (unless you are someone who wants to do all the reminding, bottom wiping, pants pulling up and down, accident cleaning, etc potty trained parents).
Kids need to be able to pull their clothes up and down before they are ready. They need to know that things go certain places (toys in toy box, garbage in trash can, and pee and poop in the toilet). The need to be able to communicate the need to go potty (think about what will happen if he is in a grocery store and needs to go?).
If he is not quite ready, you can work on some of these developmental needs now. One of the best ones I think is when you see them going in their diaper (they are usually obvious about that) talk to him about how he feels and explain that is how he is going potty and that soon he will go on the toilet.
If he has these (and a willingness to go) then you are ready.
I have had several boys, teach him to pee sitting down. A lot less pee everywhere - my personal opinion.
