Potty Training Almost 3 Yr Old

I put the potty in an accessible location and frankly stopped asking. I wasn't getting it right anyway and it wasn't teaching her body signals. I started telling her to try when she got up, went to bed, before her bath, after meals and before we leave the house. That seems to be working better. There were a few early days where it was nothing put a mess and I did SO much laundry! She's had a setback here and there but overall I feel that putting her in panties and just going with it (other than for nighttime) has worked. I tried it when she wasn't yet 3 and it didn't work for us, and then tried again when she was a little older and it's going better.

My son was potty-trained at 2.5, and we would tell him it was potty-time every 30 minutes. We even set a timer, and toward the end, he was telling us it was potty time! Accidents should just be ignored, basically, but actually doing it in the potty should be CELEBRATED. Then, once your child has figured out that she is supposed to go in the potty, you can stretch it to 45 minutes, an hour, several hours. Even though, at three, I consider him fully trained, I still have to tell my son before we go shopping, when he wakes up in the morning, and other occasions that he has to go potty. ^_^

First of all, don't ask her, tell her "It's time to try and go potty." I started out at 15-20 minutes. If it seems she can go longer without needing to go stretch it to 30 minutes. You can even get her a timer that resembles a watch for her to wear and set it so it goes off every so many minutes, alerting her to go. This will take the responsibility off you and put it on her to go, where it belongs, since she's the one being trained ; )

And keep her potty where is is best accessible for her to encourage her to use it, whichever room she spends the most time in. We now have one in the bathroom and one in his room for night use, and he'll be 3 in April.

There are many answers to this question on here if you can find them. I would set a timer and take her every 15 min. to start. Even if she just goes and sits and doesn't go repeat it in 15 min. Then if she goes a few times go to 30 min. Reward, praise and continue. If there is an accident clean it up and keep going. Don't go back, quit, put her in pull ups, etc. It won't take long if you do your part and she is using the potty already you said so she has the idea.

I agree with AV, I have boys (just 1 girl outa 5, lol) so talk about a mess, but if the potty was close they at least tried to go. As they got better, we moved the potty closer and closer to the bathroom, and that was that. With my boys I kept the door open, seat up and ready to go, and just the normal reminders, that have been mentioned. With my daughter she used the little potty chair a lot longer but same method.
