I have a daughter that is 2 years old and will be 3 next friday. I've been trying to potty train her for sometime now. But so far I'm not having alot of luck with it. I've been taking her to the bathroom every 2 hours. Sometimes she'll use and sometimes she won't. When she does use the potty I always tell how good she done and we usally clap our hands. But most of the time when she doesn't use the bathroom a few minutes she'll use the bathroom on herself. The only time I put a diper on her is when she goes to bed at night or whenever we go somewhere. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something else that I can do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We've finally found a way to get her to use the bathroom. When she uses the potty we give her a tootsie roll as a reward. Sometimes we still have accidents but I expect that every now and then. We also let her know that we are very proud of her. Thanks alot for all the responces. They were all a big help!

Hi S. G. I went through the same thing with my 2 children, but mine were older and I used old fashioned bribery, I just had to find what worked with each child, with my daughter I found little toys that were on the clearance racks and each time she went she would get to pick one, this did not work with my son, with him it was a brand new "Sponge Bob" bathing suit that I told him if he went potty in it, it would have to go in the trash. I this is helpful, just my experience

you're probably not doing anything wrong at all; My daughter has just, over the past couple of weeks, been truly potty trained and she turned 3 in November. I, just like you, tried taking her every hour or so and whenever I heard pee pee I would cheer and sing and even give her a little prize (dollar stores have GREAT toddler rewards!). The reward system helped a lot but it really wasn't until she just decided she wanted to that she became consistant and accident free... literally, it was like one day it just clicked! Good luck on your potty training journey but honestly after you've introduced the concept and shown her what you want her to do it is ultimately up to her.

Hi S.,
I had to refuse to put a diaper on both of my boys, except at night when they don't always have control. I don't think you are doing anything wrong...but I would take her to the potty a little more often...maybe every half hour? I know their little bladders are a lot smaller than ours, and I know my boys drink a LOT more than I do...milk, juice, etc. Overall, just keep at it. My oldest son took a couple of months to fully potty train, and my youngest a couple of weeks. Every child is different. So don't sweat it and good luck to you!

hey S...my name is C. and i have potty trained 2 daughters , i own a daycare center and i use the same method at the center for those harder to train little girls that i used on my own. that is to purchase and use the silky panties while training...they do not absorb so get ready to clean up a mess...but it wont feel good to her either and she will be aware the instant she wets!! so give it a try and let me know how it works. :)

All kids are different.Just keep trying. With my daughter we tried taking coloring books and stuff in there with her so she would sit long enough.Running the water helps too but what finally got mine I got a string some paper clips and envelopes.I decorated the envelopes and put little goodies in them ,stickers, tootsie rolls, suckers, little toys(like stuff you get from a pinata)and everytime she went she got to pick her own surprise.Letting them pick out their own character undies seems to go over well too.We had her completely done in two weeks even through the night. When you're ready for that just cut back her liquids after dinner and make sure she goes before laying down. That's what worked for us.Good luck.

i think you need to let her decide when she goes to the potty. taking her every two hours on a schedule means she doesn't have to try to recognize when she's going or needs to go. try looking for cues that she needs to go (touching herself, squirming, facial expressions) that way you only put her on the potty when she needs to go. put her in regular underwear or a dress and no panties, leave to door to the bathroom open and the lid up (hopefully you8 have a small side potty to start out so she can access it herself. if she's like most kids she'll follow you to the bathroom and imitate anyway, so you know she'll be on the pot at a few regular intervals.

Hi S. C.

My name is M. D. I have two grown boys. I also am a nanny to a set of triplets, they just turned 2 and we are trying to potty train them, but they have to want to and you have to take her every 15 minutes, not every two hours. That is so that she will know that she is doing it right. You have to keep up on things and make sure even though she says she does not need to go that you take her anyway. You have to be consistant with potty training. And even though she has a diaper on ask her if she needs to go.

Hi, I am going through the same thing with my 3 1/2 year old little boy. He goes pee pee when I tell him to but NEVER wants to do number 2 on the toilet. I am not sure what to do about that. Good luck to you!!
