ok so where do i start.. my two d a half year old son is growning out of diapers fast.. he already wears a 5t in clothing and is quikly growing out of that.. yesterday i went to target and bought him clothes out of the boys section.. small and xsmall but still, the kid is huge!.. so a while ago we bought him the lil fisher price singing potty that actually looks like a lil toilet but he is way to big for it now. So my first question is what potty seat do i get that hooks on to the big toilet? Is he even ready for this? i don't want to push him but we are running out of options in the diaper area.. elp i don't want to buy the expensive trainer diapers or i guess adult diapers? what do i do?

What can I do next?

I had this kind of problem with my daughter she was going on 3 yrs old and I just finally took her out of her diapers and out of pull ups and put her in the cloth training panties. After a few days she got tired of the whole thing and started wanting to go to the big potty. I went to Walmart and got one that fit in the top of a regular toilet. She had a few accidents but it worked . Well I hope that you find something that works. Good Luck.

Hey God knows that boys are a challenge to potty train, but I have to agree with the other mom's...... consistency. My oldest is almost 5 and my 2nd one is almost three. My first one wasn't potty trained until he was 3 and a half and my youngest is pretty much trained now. I would use something smalll with mine like a "hi five" when they went to the potty and sat on it (because they love to go, but don't always do anything) and a Skittle when they actually did something in it. I know, candy...bad, but it worked and they learned thier colors along the way, call me unorthodox, but hey, you have to do what works. Good luck.

Have you tried training pants? The cloth underwear with the vinyl topper. Let him run around the house with nothing but that on (assuming it's as warm where you are as it is here). From what I understand, there is nothing nastier feeling than wet vinyl training pants - and a lot of people say two weeks is all it takes.

I have bought a couple of different potty seats for the big bathroom potty and I think Baby Bjorn is the best. It's simple, sturdy and doesn't move when they are getting on and off the potty. It also has a built in tinkle deflector that is part of the padding, which is nice since I have 2 boys!

They make diapers in bigger sizes. You just may have to go to a bigger store or a different department or order them online.

I would encourage you to let him decide when he is ready. We really pushed our first (who showed some signs of readiness, but not enough to be truly ready) and I think he suffers from it. He's almost 7 and he just peed his pants today in fact. Our second, who decided on his own when he was ready, has no issues whatsoever.

As for what kind of potty to use...if he's that big he should be able to use the regular toilet. He might need one of the things you hook on and flip down, but he may not. We never used one of those with my kids.

S.,
I never used those little toilet just because I didn't want to deal with the cleanup afterwards. I got a seat that fits over the real toilet seat. They are not that expensive. I also got a little stool so that they can climb up there on their own. I got all that at Toy'r'us I believe. Not to sound weird or anything but I wanted to see if I could even use it and had no problem. So I don't think that your son is any bigger than me! With potty training, no matter what method you use, you need to be consistent. Good luck!

I had a really hard time potty training my daughter. She was just not interested in it, and then she figured out that it was just easier to go in her diaper so she didn't have to stop playing to go. I tried everything from physically putting her on the potty every hour or so, especially after she had finished drinking something, to keeping a jar of M&M's in the bathroom as a reward every time she went. I finally figured out that she just had to do it on her own time. She was wearing pullups to daycare every day, and one day her teacher said she wasn't going to wear them anymore. I sent her to daycare the next day in panties and she's been wearing them ever since. She still has problems sometimes at nap time, and I put her in Goodnights for bedtime becuase she's a heavy sleeper and she outgrew the pullups. I would have to say be patient and keep trying. He'll come around in his own time. Try the Goodnights. They're thinner than the pullups, but they hold well and come in bigger sizes. As for the toilet, you can get one of the cushioned seats that attaches to the top of your regular seat, but I found my daugter hated them. They don't stay that well and would pinch her when she would get onto the potty. Good Luck!!

My Eldest son Morgan was 10lbs at birth and proceded to grow very quickly too. When it came time to potty train bought the fisher price potty that sang too only to find out he did not have enough room to go. So I went back to Walmart and bout the adapter that goes on the potty, not sure who makes it but, it has blues clues printed on there. ( along with a step stool) He was a little small to sit on it alone, but quickly grew into it. Also, sleep pants called ,"Good Nights" realy help to stop leaks. Good luck....

Some kids are ready around age 1, while others are not ready until age 3 or older. You can tell if your child is ready when he: *can walk *go potty fewer times a day *wake up from a nap dry * can take underwear off and on *understand words such as "pee pee, poo poo, and potty."
You can help your child learn by *providing a potty chair, or have a sturdy step stool by the toilet. They also make seats that fit over the toilet lid (so kids don't fall in.) *make toilet paper easy to reach (the pop-ups for toilet trainers are great at preventing over usage.) *dress them in clothes easy to take off. *watch for signs that they need to go potty. *ask them to go often (I ask @ every 45min or so.) *when they go in the toilet say, "That's good!" *never yell or shame them for an accident. * if they have lots of accidents continuously, go back to diapers for a while and try again later. *go slowly. Potty training takes time! *most of all is routine, if you don't remind them to go potty they will forget! *I personally have had more luck by just putting them in underwear, yes there is more clean-up, but the pull-ups are just like diapers to them. Be patient and good-luck! Hope I could help.

first I would suggest training pants or regular underware so he knows when he has gone... how ever what you will be saving in the diaper/training pants area you will be making up for in laundry. has he shown any interest in going to the potty? If he is not he might not be ready yet...take him in there right after he wakes up from a nap or in the morning, and about thirty minuets after eating... put him ot the potty, or set him on the seat. if he is to big for a potty seat try turning him backwards on the regular potty...
