Potty Training 2 1/2 Year Old Girl

Does anyone have any advice on potty training little girls? My three boys were easy compared to my very strong willed little girl. She has her bowel movements on the potty chair, but seems scared of them. She just flat out refuses to go potty on the chair (but has no problem going everywhere else in the house!) However, she loves to sit on the potty chair and talk and sing and play.

What can I do next?

My girl will be 3 in September and she has been potty training or actually peeing on the toilet since June and pooping on the toilet since mid-July. What worked to get her to go or be comfortable on the toilet, we put a step stool under her feet when she sat on the "big" toilet. That way she seemed more comfortable and her feet didn't dangle.

I don't have a girl I have a lil boy but I go to a parent support group and the lady that runs the group said to try and get them to wear big girl underwear then maybe she will actually go in the potty. She said if they wear pull ups they sometimes don't know they are wet but with underwear they do. Do u have any tips on how to potty train a lil boy because we have put him in underwear and some days he goes and some days he doesn't and he won't go poop in the potty. We have started rewarding him with gummy worms to get him to go potty.

Not sure. We started out putting my little girl on the potty at the crack of dawn. Sometimes she'd go sometimes not. then we used bribes (pull ups - underwear) along with encouragement by the babysitter. The babysitter has all the kids come cheer each time they go potty for a time. It is pretty cool. I think it prevents them from spending too much time looking at it and thinking about it. We are working on my 2 year old now and she asks to go a lot of the time when the older daughter and I go potty. But she is different from my oldest. She gets what is going on and will try to push even when she has nothing.

Anyway...good luck

I have an almost 3 year old who was also very strong willed. I would put her on the potty first thing in the morning and make her sit, she would sing and talk and then get up and two minutes later pee in her pull up or underwear. I had to completly take away diapers out of my house. You have a lot more laundry and always have to have extra clothes with you, but it worked. More than likely your daughter will not like to be wet down there and will eventually learn that urge to get to the potty before she wets herself. Hope this is helpful. Krissy

Try taking the potty chair out of the bathroom. If she is already going all over the house anyway, why not bring it in the living room or wherever she plays most of the time. Maybe she will grow more and more comfortable with it (and hopefully use it). I too have a very strong willed little girl (she just turned 3), potty training with her went smoothly as long as I didn't try to interfere or pressure at all. Also have you tried letting her pick out her own panties? Ours wore only panties (who needs clothes!) for several month while potty training. She always had 2 pair on, one for her bottom and another on her head. Whatever works, right!

We started potty training my daughter when she was 2 1/2. She loved to sit and read and 5 minutes after she got up - she wet her pants. Whenever she had a bowel movement -she immediately told us to change her. I got so frustrated, I took a break from it. A few months after she turned three - I was off work for a week and I started working with her again. We tried to make it exciting. We had a few practice runs "When you have to go potty - tell mommy" and then we'd run to the bathroom. We practiced a few times so when the time was ready - we did it. She didn't make it in time the first few tries. But after that - she did it and we have only had 4-5 accidents total in the past 7 months. Initially we tried pull-ups. The 2nd attempt we went straight to underwear so she could feel getting wet. Good luck - I've heard from several mothers of boys that it was easier for them.

E.,

the best advice I can give is to find a friend with a daughter approximately the same age that is potty trained and invite her over for play dates. The potty trained one will help train your daughter simply by watching and wanting to be like her friend.
