My son is only 17 months old but is very interested in the potty, "poo-poo," and diapers . . . He tells me when he has a poopoo and seems to understand where it is supposed to go. I want to buy a little potty and just let him get used to it. What are the best pottys and what recommendations does anyone have?

We really like the potty that sings and plays music,
I would also get one that you can take places that goes on the big potty

I would get a stool and a potty seat for your toilet. That way you wont have to re train him to use the "big potty". The BabyBjorn seat is the best one we found and you can put it in the dishwasher...without dishes of course!
Since he shows interest go ahead and see what you can do.

I agree, get a stool and potty seat, it's so much easier to train them on the big potty rather than have to re-train them to use it instead of "their" little potty. We used a potty chair on our first daughter, and it was a nightmare trying to get her used to the big potty, so with the rest of our little ones, we went straight for the potty seat, and it was much easier.

As far as what kind of seat, I really don't think it matters, I have used the same one with all my kids, and I bought it at Wal-Mart with Bear in the Big Blue House on it. It really wasn't that expensive.

I recommend getting one that is 2-in-1... offers the floor option if your son does not like being up high, but converts to a stool/seat for the regular toilet. You could try it on the regular toilet first if you prefer, and then if he's scared, you can move him to the floor. We started on the floor with my daughter's potty seat next to the regular one. She didn't want to be up high. But within 3-4 months she was ready to move up. I was going to get one of the fancy Fisher Price toilets with noises when you flush, etc., because it looked like it might be fun, but then decided to get a bare-bones one. I think it was a Graco, and cost around $15 at Toys R Us (this was 2 years ago). I'm glad I didn't let the "fun" factor influence my decision as the plain 2-in-1 was perfect for us and didn't cost as much.

Good luck!
