Hi Moms,

I need to make a main dish for a potluck dinner tomorrow night for my son's boychoir meeting. I've never been to a "potluck". I'm clueless as to what to make. I'm not a huge fan of casseroles, so what else could I bring. I was thinking finger sandwiches, but would that be what they are looking for?

Thanks!!

Many people bring casseroles or things like that, but I think finger sandwiches would be great. Especially if there are kids involved - those are easy to pick up and eat while standing around.

Are the kids part of the dinner? Or is it a meeting that is going to be all adults at the potluck? I have a terrible time coming up with main dish ideas for potlucks also, mainly b/c our family doesn't like casseroles. I'm not cooking something my own family won't eat.

Do you know if anyone else is bringing anything? Or how many people this is for? I like to do something like a crock pot of taco meat, then bring tortillas or torn lettuce (and other veggies) and shredded cheese so folks can make soft tacos or taco salad.
Or maybe a crock pot of chicken/rice.
Some people will do a pulled pork and bring sandwich rolls/buns with a bottle of BBQ sauce, for pulled pork sandwiches.
Does this help?

Can't go wrong with simple dishes that would appeal to kids, like spaghetti or barbeque chicken.

Sandwiches are fine for potlucks. My goal for potlucks with kids is to bring something I know my kids will eat. Mac and cheese, soup, crockpot meals, lasagna, pasta salad.
