Potential Job Change, What Would You Do?

I love my job. Love the people I work with, the work I am asked to do and everything about my work environment. Today I was approached at work by someone several pay grades above me that told me she was leaving and put my name in for her replacement. It would literally double my pay and I would be able to take her place very smoothly as far as daily operations are concerned. She is only leaving the postion to move closer to her daughter and grandbabby, not due to unhappiness in the position.

I don't know what to do! Yes, it would be dealing with completely different aspects of our company, but I've worked with her MANY times through this year and filled in for her on her vacations so I know what her job entails. I could do it, but I seriously LOVE my current position.

What would you do?

What can I do next?

Talk to her, about the job and get more comfortable with it. Ask her questions about it. You seem to know her well enough that you could talk to her about it and the position. She recommended you. That is a good thing.
Then make a decision.

I would take it.
You have a silver platter in front of you.

If you like doing the work when you fill in for her then take the position. Double the salary with the same company so you have whatever vacation time/sick time you've accumulated over the years. It's a win/win.

I'd take the new job if offered. It's something that is a bit familiar to you and it's double your salary! Yes, you love your current job, but you will most likely grow to love the new position. If you are interested in progressing in your career, take advantage of opportunities!

Sometimes the best thing to do is put in all the effort you can and then just pray that God does what us best for you. If this is what is meant for you it will happen. If not, it wasn't meant to be.

Ask yourself, "did I like doing her job and the people I worked with?" You know the job and what it entails, what makes you think you wouldn't love that position too?

Why not do the advance and get paid for what you know. Downside, if it is managerial and you don't want to have that responsibility, then that might be another issue.

Sounds like a good move to me! Best of luck!!

Oh L.,
I know you love the job you have now and it is a great spot for you, your experience and your personality.

What are the major differences with people you are accustomed to being with daily? Is it more behind the scenes with making things happen where you are not as involved with some of the people you love being around?

I believe I have a hunch as to why you might be holding back and quite honestly, that would be a reason that I would have a hard time with as well.

As far as the company, it is very stable and if you take this new position, you would likely be there until you choose to retire.

My thoughts are with you. Like you, I would be torn.

I'd go for it. I had a similar experience a few years ago. I, too, loved my previous job and was very hesitant on applying for the new one when I was approached. It took some serious convincing from my co-worker. And looking back, I can't believe I was even considering not taking my current position. I received a significant raise but nowhere near double - that would definately seal the deal for me.
Good luck!

It sounds like you are "comfortable" where you are and feel very secure. The woman suggesting you for her position sees potential in you and the loyalty you give through the years of service. Most promotions are from within. This is your chance to advance and to shine in a new arena. Do ask about the ins and outs that you are not familiar with. Go for it.

PS Put the extra money in a savings account or something and don't spend it on a big splurge.

Filling in is not the same as doing the job on a daily basis but did you like doing it? If so, go for it! You could like that one just as much as the one you are doing now.

Wow, once again we all agree on something! You know that's a miracle. SH had the best additional advice, talk to your friend.

Also, since this position is several pay grades ahead, then you must will have managerial duties. In those duties, replicate the working conditions that you now enjoy.

Honey, I live for that kind of career and morale boost! It does not happen often. Go for it!

Take the new job. You can bring the happiness you've found in the place you are now to more people in the company. You'd be able to implement so many changes so that everything could run more smoothly and with less stress.
