Found out Friday I was miscarrying and that baby had stopped growing over 2 weeks prior. Opted for D&C same night. Bled steadily (but not heavily) Saturday and then minor tan spotting, very light Sun/Mon. Today had intense lower abdominal pain but was NOT convinced that it wasn't gas, as I've had some GI issues too. Then got home tonight after dinner and my pany liner was saturated with bright red blood and I had several small clots (which I tend to clot during my periods anyway). Did some reading online and it SOUNDS like this is normal??? Pain is all but gone, but I have a pretty high pain tolerance. Does this sound "normal"?? I know the doctor told me to expect it to be "like a period" but I had NO cramping the first 3 days after D&C.I just don't remember how long they said the bleeding would last and if this "off and on business" is normal. Thanks ladies. I know, I can always call the on-call OB/GYN, just thought I'd start here since the bleeding has slowed significanlty again and pain is essentially gone and what's left is now definitely gas.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

sounds like anything can be normal and anything can be a problem..... Very light flow today, one regular pad all day; got home, gushes and clots and soaked through a pad in an hour. No cramping or bloated feeling today though. How frustrating to not know what hygiene products to have on hand. Really wish I didn't have to wear a pad just in case for the next few weeks. HATE that!!!!! Will call MY OB again tomorrow if gushes and clots contiue. ON call one last night thought the clotting was just that, post-surgery clotting that got backed up, causing the cramping, then "broke through" and on it's way to flushing out. and "should lighten up". hmmmmm

Im sorry for your loss. Everyone is different but when I had the d & c I didn't bleed the first day but for about a week I bled bright red with clots and small amounts of tissue. Sometimes they don't get it all and its normal.to ease your concerns call your doc to be sure but it did happen to me. Best of luck love!

I had a bad experience with this, I was bleeding for 2 mos post d and cand my dr told me it was normal, I finally went to a second op and the dr. right away said it's not normal to bleed this long and he said the reason i was bleeding is that NOT all the tissues were removed during 1st d/c so he sched me asap for another d/c, bleeding did not happen again after 2nd d and c. If you bleed for another week, I will consult another dr if your dr says it's normal. It was hell for me bleeding all that time and being told it was normal, I did not have to suffer that long had I seen another dr. right away. Just my opinion, your situation may be totally different.

I have had three D&C and had heavy clotting and bleeding on and off for about two weeks, some days it was hardly anything and then the next day would be very heavy.
I wouldnt worry unless it goes on for more that 2 weeks.

Hang in there :)

I bled for about a week and a half.

No cramping UNLESS I over did it. Then 1-2 days of "I've just been gutted" cramps. Situps were a bad idea. So was fetching my mail one day (but not the day prior). Standing for long periods was to be avoided the entire first week. So was getting in and out of cars. It's kind of wacky. Once I figured out the motions that were no-no's it was easy to avoid them, but the WEIRDEST motions were no-no's. Like holding onto a pole and swinging my way around it (the fetching the mail oops).

If you have any kind of fever, or if something just feels 'off', or if it lasts longer than 2 weeks it's time to go back in as part of the placenta may have been left or your hormones may be wonky and need a bit of help evening out.

If you're EVER in doubt, ring the 24/7 nurses line through your hospital for immediate medical advice without the commitment of actually heading to the doctors. They'll ask a bunch of questions, sift through symtoms, and tell you to treat at home, make an appt w/ your doctor, head to urgent care, or head to the ER based off of those symtoms. LOVELY invention, the 24/7 nurse advice line.
