We have a 3month old and I am looking for a pool float that he could use this summer. He does hold his head up very well and by the time he uses the float he will be around 5 months. Does anyone have any they would recommend?
Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks, everyone. I should say that of course we would ALWAYS have our hand on him and NEVER let him just float by himself. I don't want you all to think we're irresponsible parents! I should also say that he is 14.5 lbs and 24in long. I was just hoping for some suggestions.

My doctor recommended that they not go into the pool until they were past 6 months due to getting intestinal parasites.

I would be very, very paranoid about putting a child that young in a float. I think you are much better off holding him.

I loved this one when my daughter was younger. It is recommended for age 3 and up, but we used it when she was about 6months and up. It is easy to carry with you and I love the canopy for shade.

I know this should go without saying but never take your eyes off a child that cannot swim on their own. Especially that young. Okay done with the lecture but after four kids I have seen even the best pool floats turned over by a child determined to get that toy they see off in the distance.

I always had the floats that were that styrfoam (god I know I mangled that spelling) with the little sling thing hanging from it for them to sit in. As the child got bigger and more able to tip it the weight of the child actually made it more stable. If the child is old enough to sit in a high chair without it tilted, ya know, upright, they can sit in that float.

My youngest didnt like the float he preferred to be held my oldest loved it. He had one you inflate. I never let go of the float while he was in it I don't trust those baby loats they tip easy.

We used a SwimWays baby spring float with sunshade. I think you can find it at Walmart. Here's a link to what it looks like. http://www.swimways.com/baby-spring-float-sun-canopy-p-33...
It is really easy to set up and fold back up for storage. It also was much more stable than the total blow up floats, plus it comes with a sunshade. We used it last summer when my son was 5-9 months old.
P.S.: I'm sure you know that we always had a hand on the float. We would never leave him unattended.

We had one that was like an inner tube with a seat, it worked great. In addition to this we also used a swimsuit with a built in life preserver, just in case.

I got one that look like a turtle from Target when my daughter was 4 months. I always stayed in the pool with her, but it was great, and she loved it. It had a canopy on it so she wasn't directly in the sun all the time. It was between $10 and $15.

With my son I just used his baby bath till he could move himself, this year I will get him a pool since he can now walk (last summer he could barely crawl). So if you want to invest in a pool that he wont really put to good use till next year, go for it. But I loved using the bath because I didn't have to lean over anything to be able to make sure he was ok. I would do that with a 3 month old, especially if you have a bath tub that has a natural slant to it, so you don't have to hold him up.
** I just saw that you wanted a pool float. SORRY! I got one that was similar to the thread posted. Mine just looked like a frog and I think had a better shade cover. I got if for 10 20 dollars.
