Poked Out Belly Button???

Hi Moms,
I am in my 6 month of pregnancy and already my belly button is sticking out. The WHOLE thing is out and it kind of grosses me out. This did not happen until the last month of my first pregnancy and even then, it did not stick out this much. I am self conscious of it as it shows through clothes and my husband makes fun of it. He means no harm but still...
Please tell me it will go back to normal once I deliver.

What can I do next?

Hernia typically hurts though. Mine didn't stick out till close to the end of my first pregnancy either, but with this 2nd one, it stuck out way sooner.

I haven't done this, but know moms who have, put a bandaid over it so it looks smoother under your clothes.

Everything happens sooner and bigger with the second pregnancy! Congrats!
Bandaids didn't help the poke. When I tried it, it just changed the shape of the poke to a square-ish band-aid shaped poke. My stretched-out, rounded-belly skin didn't seem to hold the adhesive tightly enough to make a difference.

My belly button didn't go back to normal. It didn't stay poked out, but it's somewhere in-between. I've decided I'll spring for an abdominoplasty for my 40th birthday. I've got 8 years to save up for it....

Hi Alex,

I know -- I had one of those belly buttons that reminded me of those things that pop out when the turkey is ready. We laughed about it. It actually happened with my first, and did not really go down. My doctor suggested waiting until I was finished having children, since whatever was done would likely undo with another pregnancy. By the end of my second preganancy (and last) it was herniated. Since I had a c-section, my doctor just went in and fixed it after the baby was delivered.

I know that you are very concerned about this, but please understand that it is very fixable. Express your concerns with your doctor. Each case is different, and yours may be more simply solved than mine was.

Congratulations on your preganancy -- it's such an exciting time. Here's to a healthy pregnancy - and of course, a healthy child : )

Frist off, congrats on your pregnancy!

They sell this little things (the name escapes me right now) that you can put on top of your belly button so it doesn't show through the clothes. I never got them (mine never popped, it just got flat, still weird to me though!) but I've seen them in maternity clothing stores. And, if it bothers you that your husband says something, tell him to stop! My husband would gently tease me about certain things when I was pregnant, but after awhile those hormones got the best of me and I would just say "Stop. I'm getting upset". After that, no worries! Congrats again!

Got great news for you, Alex!

Your belly button WILL go back to its "innie" position after the baby is born.

However, I would mention it to my OB when you go for your next appt, or if it's bothering you a whole bunch, go ahead and call his/her office, and ask if you should be concerned about it. They may have you go ahead and come on in, just to be on the safe side (rule out a hernia, possibly).

Congrats on the kids!!
