We went camping three weeks ago and I got poison oak on my arms. It will not go away and is driving me nuts! Not to mention it's ugly, my husband & I have a hot date this weekend for our anniversary and it won't look very good with my dress :(

Has anyone had experience with Poison Oak and know how to get rid of it? I get conflicting info when I search the web.

What can I do next?

You probably need to go on an oral steroid. My husband has had it twice and always needs to go on an oral steroid. Good luck.

If not going to the drs for a px, try taking 2 benadryl every night from now til the weekend. But don't worry, your husband will think you're hot anyway! Good Luck!

You need to go to the doctor. A short course of antiinflammatory steroids will settle down your body's over-exuberant immune reaction. Over the counter 1% hydrocortisone might help some but is often not strong enough. At this point you also need to make sure you do not have a secondary skin infection that might require antibiotics.

Ivy Dry will help with the itching and helps dry it out but after all this time you do probably need to go on an oral steroid or at least a stronger cortizone cream.

I have used the Hyland's poison oak/poison ivy pills. They really help with the itching and took away my rash in a couple days. You can buy them at some drugstores, whole foods, and most natural stores.

My brother in law swears by Ivy Dry (he is so allergic he doesn't have to get very close and catches it). Another option is Sol-U-Mel

I am horribly allergic to poison ivy/oak, and there does not seem to be a thing you can do about it, it seems to have to run it's course - steroid ointments are what my doc gives me to tone the redness and itching down, you could try a cortisone cream.

you can get poison ivy wash which I carry with me, and you put it on if you think you have touched it - I just finished my yearly bout of it, lasted about 2 months

Do you know what all you've come in contact w/since the exposure? Was all of this stuff washed? If not done correctly, the oil just spreads - kinda sounds like what has happened. Let me know and I'll see if I think our old ped's advice will help you!

When I react to poison ivy/oak/sumac, it just won't stop on it's own. My record was 2 months. When I woke up scratching my legs bloody in my sleep it was time to see a Dr. A simple Prednisone (steroid) series finally stopped it. The itch began going away shortly after taking the first dose. It was blissful relief!

Yeah I get poison oak all the time you should mix three parts baking soda with one part water then put on skin when dry take a cold shower and use dish soap to remove all oil and stop the itching. After you can use a banana peel to cool it and make the redness go away.
